Marco Mei presents his 2020 episode 14 on Scientific Sound Asia, with the playlist originally published for the 11 April broadcast. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Marco is an Italian DJ and producer with nearly thirty years of industry experience by 2020. As a teenager, he developed a strong interest in Afrocentric music and witnessed the emergence of electronic music.
Those influences led him to begin DJing at the start of the 1990s. He toured extensively in Italy during his early career, developing his craft and reputation.
Marco later appeared at festivals and clubs internationally. He has shared the decks with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg.
In the early 2000s, he held a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, which brought wider international attention. This was followed by appearances at House Music and Techno events in nightclubs around the world.
His venues have included Arcan in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin and G-Star in Pattaya. He also played SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk, sharing bills with established figures from the electronic music world.
In 2009, Marco formed a production partnership with Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884, creating Bicycle Corporation. Their studio work produced 50 tracks and remixes, and helped establish Bicycle Corporation as a respected electronic music project.
Marco moved to Taipei, Taiwan, at the start of the 2010s and performs at events in the city and elsewhere in the country. He forms part of Scientific Sound Asia's roster of DJs and producers, sharing electronic music with listeners through its House Music and Techno radio output.
His weekly radio show spans deeper and more technical house selections alongside Afro and melodic material, new disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno. Marco is available for future events through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency.
Marco Mei’s 2020 episode 14 on Scientific Sound Asia opens with Boo Williams’ The Place Of Safety in the Saxophone Mix, a House Music selection from Strictly Jaz Unit Extensions. Tony Lionni follows with the François Dubois remix of Native Soul on wewillalwaysbealovesong, bringing in Deep House before Mike Dunn and N-You-Up’s Jack My Body on Papa Records.
Alex Virgo’s Cheap Thrills on Trick keeps the early section focused on House Music. Gershon Jackson’s Love Desire, in Mike Dunn’s BlackBall MixX for Classic Music Company, adds another vocal-led club record to that opening run.
TCTS’s Not Ready For Love with Mike Dunn and Maya B precedes Tensnake’s Gerd Janson remix of Automatic. Bananarama’s Leo Zero remix of Venus, released through BMG Rights Management, brings a Pop rework into the centre of the programme before Alex Virgo’s Ze Dance on Edible.
Junior Jack and Pat BDS move the set into Tech House with Audiojack’s remix of Tecky Dream on Club Session. Sovax’s Somebody on Dusty Nose holds that firmer rhythm before Fatboy Slim and Eats Everything deliver All The Ladies for Southern Fried Records.
Duck Sauce’s extended mix of Captain Duck keeps the club focus in place. White Chocolate’s Keep On Jumping on Heldeep Records then introduces Nu-Disco, followed by Paul Parsons’ House Music cut Join Me on PornoStar Records.
Mata Jones’ Over and Over on Solid State Disco extends the Nu-Disco thread late in the mix. Phoenix’s Buffalo Bunch remix of If I Ever Feel Better, Chaney’s Mousse T remix of Overboard and Nuyorican Soul featuring India’s Runaway in Mousse T’s Jazz Funk Experience provide the final run, while Marco’s Taipei base, South East Asian network, weekly radio broadcasts and DJ agency bookings frame the wider work around the show.
