Karachi DJ and producer Mawji introduces his weekly show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Mawji, whose real name is Alizain Mawji, is a DJ and producer from Karachi in the south of Pakistan. His musical interests centre on Progressive House, Techno and Deep House, the genres he rates highly.
His connection with electronic music began in 2012, when he attended underground venues across Karachi as a raver. Those teenage experiences developed his sense of rhythm and melody, and he shared his productions with fellow students during his university years.
Over his short and often tumultuous career as a DJ and producer in Pakistan, Mawji's vision was forward-facing, with an aim to develop and push the electronic roots of his artistic work. The original article described his approach as culturally independent of much of the underground music community, while presenting it as an expression guided by his soul.
In the original announcement, Mawji's decision to pursue electronic music in his home country was presented as evidence of both his tenacity and his community's willingness to set aside preconceptions. His first programme for Scientific Sound Asia featured tracks that he produced himself.
