Green Snake Records, represented by Samotarev and guest Following Light, present Snake Sessions 053 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an English-language electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting local and international audiences across Japan, Vietnam, China, Thailand and the rest of Asia.
Green Snake Records was founded in 2009 as a Russian-Australian label in cooperation with Bellarine Recordings. From August 2009, it operated as a Russian label owned by Samotarev, releasing progressive house, tech house, deep house and techno from Russian and international producers.
Green Snake CEO Samotarev (first hour)
The first hour comes from Green Snake Records CEO Samotarev, whose real name is Alexey Samotarev and who began DJing in Russia in 1997 with breakbeat and electrohouse. He was an originator of The Python Project, a progressive house, tech house and techno trio formed in Rostov-on-Don by Yura Kolomiytsev, Alexey Samotarev, also known as DJ Samotarev, and Eugeniy Litovchenko.
At around the same time, he developed his DJ practice using both vinyl and CDJs. He played Russian and Ukrainian clubs, festivals and private parties in cities across Russia and Ukraine, while The Python Project released its first album, Deep Pressure, in 2004. released afterwards
Between 2004 and 2006, Samotarev co-organised the SabotaDJ promo group and staged large music festivals in southern Russia that drew thousands of attendees. From 2005 to 2007, he also co-hosted the weekly Adrenalin radio show on Radio N.
The first Python Project track arrived on Xeton in 2006, followed by releases on Ascension, Balkan Connection, Behold, Bellarine, Composure, Jetlag, Monad, Presslab, Proton, Real Music, Segment, System and Toes In The Sand. In 2009, he began his solo Samotarev project with Space Travel on Lowbit, which included remixes by Thomas Penton, Rachael Star and Joshua Collins.
That same year, Samotarev established his own label, Green Snake Records, with a focus on progressive sound. He moved to Saint Petersburg in 2012, began a residency at Parkking after-party club and also played Music Hall, 4:20 Music Lab, Prodj Club, OM Café, Look, Q Club and other clubs.
In 2016, Samotarev moved to Koh Phangan, Thailand, where he held residencies at 4U Bar and Lost Paradise and appeared at Scandal Festival. He has also played KC Beach Club, The Beach and Gecko Club on Koh Samui, alongside 360 Bar, Loi Lay, Samsara, Guy’s Bar, Local Bar, Coast Resort, Seaboard Bungalows, Amsterdam Bar, Jungle Experience and Mustache in Bangkok.
While living in Thailand, he made the single Voice of Phangan, released through Bonzai Progressive, which reached Beatport’s Top 100 Progressive House chart. In 2019, he moved to Phuket and began Kazache, a production project in deep and minimal styles, as well as Sam Python, which focuses on commercial and intelligent sounds including Nu-Disco and house.
Guest DJ (second hour) Following Light.
The second hour features Following Light, the alias of Kirill Guk from Odessa, Ukraine. Interested in art from an early age, he enjoyed painting and graduated from the painting faculty of an art school in Odessa.
After graduating, Following Light began experimenting with electronic music and established Inmost Records (Proton). His productions have received support from Markus Schulz, Hernan Cattaneo and Max Graham, among others.
Following Light’s sound centres on atmospheric progressive house with elements of melodic techno. Supported by DJs internationally, he's released music on 100+ labels, including Particles, Lowbit, Slideways, Saturate Audio, Soundteller Records, Stellar Fountain, Visceral, OLD SQL Recordings, Magic Room and Balkan Connection.
His mix features original tracks and remixes by Following Light. The second hour therefore gives space to both his own catalogue and his work reshaping other artists’ material.
Samotarev and Following Light’s Snake Sessions 053 episode opens with Owen Ear’s Memories on 3rd Avenue, a measured Deep House introduction. Brunoh’s Satellites on Clinique and Mazze’s Night O’Granis on One Of A Kind then establish the first hour’s Progressive House direction.
Mars Monero and Rodskeez bring Sun Disperser from Balkan Connection into the sequence before Brunoh returns with Punished, also on Clinique. Stylo’s Jos & Eli remix of Got Mine on Timeless Moment follows, keeping the first hour focused on steady progressive club music.
Elkris’s David Eye remix of Aviator on Dynamica introduces Melodic House and Techno textures before Ivanshee’s Jollier returns to Balkan Connection’s progressive sound. Beatpunx’s One Giant Leap for Mankind on Lodjiya, GNTN and Artche’s Cid Inc remix of Tensions on Einmusika Recordings, and Guy J’s Day Of Light on Lost&Found carry the hour towards its close.
Following Light’s hour begins with SICHI and Following Light’s Around In Circles on Lincor Apex, then moves through Stan Kolev’s Ahimsa and Beatpunx’s One Step for a Man on Lodjiya. DJ Cybertsai’s Following Light remix of Farout Land on Dog and Man and Matias Chilano’s Red Line on Sudbeat place the guest’s productions alongside the surrounding progressive selections.
Following Light’s remix of Beatpunx’s One Step for a Man on Lodjiya precedes Duo K’s Panic at the Disco on ANCL Lincor, where the pace turns towards Peak Time Techno. The original mix gives way to a firmer final section without losing the melodic detail established earlier in the hour.
PANTHA PANG’s Following Light remix of BASS 89, released through ANCL Lincor, brings Techno to the foreground near the end. Stopcode and Following Light’s Exit on ANCL Lincor closes the programme with the guest’s own collaboration, ending on the more forceful side of the two-hour selection.
