Rumesh presents episode 67 of Petrichor on Scientific Sound Asia, with Ani Onix featured in the first hour. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Rumesh founded Petrichor as a radio podcast series centred on progressive house and international guests. The previous week's programme is available as Petrichor 66's second hour.
Guest DJ Ani Onix (first hour).
The first-hour guest DJ was Ani Onix, who was born in 1977 in the former Yugoslavia, now the Republic of Slovenia, to a Slovenian mother and Arabian father. This background influenced her selections through a combination of oriental rhythms and vocals.
Music has always played an important part in her life, leading her through disco, rock, metal, hardcore, reggae and jazz before she gravitated towards electronic music. There she encountered a wide range of sounds and genres that informed her work.
While exploring the various sub-genres of electronic music, she was drawn to the deep, powerful character of progressive house and techno. She also found inspiration in House music as a whole and in genres such as dub.
Since 2011, Ani Onix has used live appearances and radio shows to share her passion for music with listeners. She hosts her monthly Ani Onix Sessions on TM Radio and has previously held radio residencies with stations around the world.
The Petrichor 67 selection opens in Progressive House with Erdi Irmak's Echoes in Time in Matias Chilano's remix on Proton Music. Julian Nates follows with Beyond the Senses, released through Soundteller Records, keeping the opening focused and measured.
Stan Kolev and Matan Caspi's Empire, remixed by Sonic Union, Forniva and Eleven Sins for Pino Music, brings a fuller club-facing profile to the sequence. Matias Chilano's Red Line on Sudbeat Music then leads into Stan Kolev's Hiwaga for Outta Limits.
Matan Caspi's Spacing, also on Outta Limits, keeps the programme within its progressive house direction. Sjors' Insomniac in the Alex Vidal remix on Welcome Music and NAHS' Birds in Mount Zion in Matias Chilano's remix for Soundteller Records extend that approach.
Matias Chilano returns with Watergate on Sudbeat Music as the later stages settle into a deeper, patient pace. His Analog Ghosts, also released by Sudbeat Music, closes the tracklist with the same understated progressive house focus.
