Marco Mei presents his 2020 Show 05 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Marco is an Italian DJ and producer with more than 25 years of experience. Raised around Afrobeat rhythms and the early electronic music scene, he began his DJ career during the 1990s.
For more than two decades, he has appeared at festivals and clubs around the world alongside DJs including Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg. These appearances have taken his selections to varied international club audiences.
At the start of the new millennium, Marco secured a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh, an important step in his international work as a DJ and producer. He has also played at Arcan in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk, working with other established figures in the industry.
In partnership with Stefano Ugliano, he formed Bicycle Corporation, and the pair have released more than 50 tracks and remixes recognised by a broad range of DJs. Marco is based in Taipei, Taiwan, where he performs regularly and is part of the community of DJs and producers broadcasting on Scientific Sound Asia radio.
His weekly show spans a wide range of styles, including Deep House, tech-house forms, Afro and melodic club music, nu-disco, indie dance, Electronica and techno. Marco is available for further engagements through the DJ agency.
Marco Mei's 2020 Show 05 episode opens with Caribou’s Never Come Back on City Slang, bringing an Indie Dance start to the programme. Manoo and Mr Raoul K follow with Bara, featuring Ahmed Sosso, on Compost, shifting the early section towards Afro House.
UpAllNight and Jinadu’s Anhauser remix of Silent Praise on Eyedyllic Music introduces Progressive House before Felix Kröcher’s Faceless Fears, featuring Haptic, brings in Techno. Frankey and Sandrino’s Tiefschwarz remix of Chimes on Watergate Records and HOSH, 1979 and Jalja’s Midnight on fryhide then establish a melodic house and techno passage.
Louie Vega, The Martinez Brothers and Marc E. Bassy bring Let It Go in the TMBLV Dub on Defected, placing the set in House Music. Laesh’s So Free So Good on My Vision Records raises the pressure with Peak Time Techno, before Hurlee’s La Touche on Suol turns towards Nu-Disco.
Demuir’s High. Alive. And Dirty. on Hot Creations and Patrick Topping’s remix of Madison Avenue’s Don’t Call Me Baby on Vicious restore a direct house focus. David Penn and Roland Clark’s The Power on Defected, David Morales’ Mistrix Dub of Needin’ U and Block & Crown’s Da Phunk Rhymin’ on Music Mart Recordings keep that club-centred approach in place.
Delux Twins’ Tonight on Subsense introduces a firmer Tech House rhythm in the late section. Cannon & Mirrorball’s Makin’ Time on Disco Bits follows with Disco, giving the programme a brighter final stretch.
Kool & The Gang’s SonicC Bootleg Remix of Fresh on Mercury Records closes the selection with an R&B reference. Originally broadcast in February 2020, the episode moves from electronic and Latin-influenced material through house, techno and funk-influenced records before its final vocal-led finish.
