DJ Marco Mei presents his 2020 show 03, Scientific Sound Radio Podcast 164, on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
With more than 25 years of experience, Marco is an Italian DJ and producer whose early influences included Afrobeat and who witnessed the rise of electronic music. He began DJing in the 1990s and has entertained audiences at festivals and clubs around the world for more than two decades.
He has performed alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg. In the early 2000s, he secured a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm el-Sheikh and began working internationally as a DJ and producer at nightclubs worldwide.
His appearances include Arcan in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk. These bookings have also brought collaborations with other artists.
Marco and Stefano Ugliano formed the electronic music collaboration Bicycle Corporation. As a duo, they have released more than 50 tracks and remixes that have received recognition from DJs.
Based in Taipei, Taiwan, Marco performs regularly while working across a wider South East Asian network. He is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, and his weekly show is broadcast through the radio station.
His weekly selections span Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno. The January 2020 programme brings together older records, reworks and contemporary club material.
DJ Marco Mei's 2020 show 03, podcast 164 opens with Crescendo's Are You Out There on Because Music, introducing Progressive House. Sono's ARTBAT remix of Keep Control on Kontor Records and Josh Wink's Adana Twins Remix One of Higher State Of Consciousness on Strictly Rhythm Records then establish a Melodic House and Techno opening.
D-Shake follows with Yaaaaaaaaaah on Go Bang! Records, bringing Techno into the early run, while Kiko Navarro's Don't Stop (The Music) appears in the Kiko's Percussion Jam version. Kool & The Gang's SonicC Bootleg Remix of Fresh on Mercury Records adds an R&B reference before Barry&Gibbs' Move On on Sakura Music moves towards Nu-Disco.
Motown Sounds featuring Loleatta Holloway bring Bad Mouthin' Sensation in the Fopp Mashup & Regrooved Edit, followed by Yuksek featuring Queen Rose on GFY from Sweat It Out. Michael Zager Band's FLKG Ripped Off Bicep Rework of Let's All Chant precedes Rick James' Gradient Logic version of Super Freak, before Triplex's Max Lyazgin remix of Catapult 2020 on SOVIETT introduces House Music.
Patrick Topping and Kevin Saunderson's Frisk and the Four Tet remix of Skrillex, Boys Noize and Ty Dolla $ign's Midnight Hour keep the middle section focused on club-ready edits. Holy Ghost's Holy Land Mix of Superman on WSR Music is followed by Danny Tenaglia featuring Cevin Fisher's The Better Days acapella on TWISTED.
Friedrich Raphael's Lemon on theBasement Discos and HDSN's Undress My Soul on NBAST sustain the house-oriented later section. Marvin Gaye's NYRK Edit of Make Me Wanna Holler (Inner City Blues) then gives way to Mat Joe's More Life and Westbam's Beatbox Rocker on Low Spirit Recordings, bringing Electronica into the final stretch.
Freak Power closes the programme with S. Nolla's revision of Turn On, Tune In, Cop Out, released through Universal-Island Records Ltd. The ending returns the selection to House Music after a sequence that moves between progressive, melodic, techno, R&B, Nu-Disco and electronic material.
