Marco Mei publishes play list for forthcoming show 9th November 2019

Marco Mei presents his 9 November 2019 radio show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.

Marco is an Italian DJ and producer with more than twenty years of experience, whose formative years included Afrobeat and the foundations of electronic music. He began DJing in the early 1990s and has developed a broad understanding of club music and dancefloor programming.

Over the course of his career, he has performed at festivals and nightclubs around the world, sharing decks with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon and Sander Kleinenberg. These appearances established connections with varied club audiences and electronic music communities.

In the early 2000s, Marco secured a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm el-Sheikh and began appearing at underground venues across Asia. His bookings included Arcan in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk.

During this period, he also shared the stage with Harry “Choo Choo” Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D’Void. The range of venues and collaborators placed his work in contact with different local scenes and approaches to club music.

Marco formed Bicycle Corporation with Stefano Ugliano, and the pair have released more than fifty tracks and remixes. Their catalogue has reached listeners internationally and received support from established DJs within electronic music.

Originally from Italy, Marco moved to Taiwan in pursuit of his musical work, a change that informed his artistic development. Time spent within Taiwan’s music scene, alongside practice and experimentation, has shaped a sound informed by cultural influences and personal experience.

His collaborations with artists and producers have broadened his musical palette while allowing him to explore different genres and styles. Marco draws on his Italian heritage and the sounds around him in Taiwan when preparing his selections and performances.

His weekly show features Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno. Based in Taipei and active across a wider South East Asian network, he is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, while his weekly programme is broadcast through its radio station.

Marco Mei opens with Dangerous Dan, Nicky Night Time and Rhonda INTL. before Riva Starr featuring Dajae brings a strong House Music groove into the programme. Ruben Mandolini and Armand Van Helden follow before Latmun and Iglesias’ “Funky People” pushes the set firmly into Tech House.

Dirty Channels and David Penn keep the middle of the set vocal and groove-led, with Hatiras and Andy Reid joining Penn on “Losing You.” Cloonee and Criss Korey then add a funkier club edge before Honey Dijon’s re-edit of Felix Da Housecat and Chris Trucher brings another classic-house reference into the mix.

Generik and Kerem Tekinalp with Furkan Kurt and HKNC carry the rhythm forward before Miguel Bastida and Ilary Montanari introduce warmer percussion. “Baiana” brings a clear Brazilian flavour into the set, giving this section a different character before C.O.T. and Dole & Kom pull the programme back towards house.

Pete Tong and HER-O featuring Boy George open the final stretch with “Symphony Of You,” followed by Sam Smith’s take on “I Feel Love” and Seamus Haji’s “Give You Love.” The closing run then leans strongly into Disco, with Mike Theodore Orchestra and Two Tons Of Fun finishing the programme on a more overtly retro note.

Across the full set, Marco Mei keeps house and tech house at the centre while disco and funk influences become increasingly prominent towards the end. The result is warmer and more vocal than many of his tougher 2019 episodes, with the closing tracks bringing the set back towards classic dancefloor sounds.
