Marco Mei presents his 2019 podcast 29 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Marco is an Italian DJ and producer with more than two decades of experience, having begun DJing in the early 1990s after drawing inspiration from Afrobeat and electronic music. He developed his skills at festivals and nightclubs worldwide, sharing the decks with Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D’Void, among others.
During the early 2000s, Marco held a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh before taking his DJ sets to underground clubs across Asia and beyond. His appearances included Arcan in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk.
In 2009, Marco joined Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884, to form Bicycle Corporation. The duo have produced and released more than fifty tracks and remixes across Deep House, Tech House, French House and Techno, receiving accolades and airplay from Sneak, Mauro Picotto, Dubfire, Axwell, Danny Tenaglia and Above & Beyond.
Based in Taipei, Marco works within a wider South East Asian network of clubs, events and electronic music activity. His 2013 track Ciao Taipei was a local revelation and helped establish his place within an expanding network of internationally recognised artists.
His weekly show spans Deep House, Tech House, Afro House, Melodic Techno, Nu-Disco, Indie Dance, Electronica and Techno. Marco is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, while his weekly programme is broadcast through the radio station.
Marco Mei opens with Longsy D’s House Sound before Double 99’s “Ripgroove” brings an unmistakable UK Garage swing into the programme. Marshall Jefferson with Solardo then move the set directly into Tech House, followed by Kevin McKay and Nando Rodrigu3z as the house groove begins to settle in.
Funkatonic’s Full Intention remix and Martha Wash in Folamour’s edit give the next section a funkier and more disco-rooted character. Qwestlife’s “Fever” brings Sugarhill Gang, Grandmaster Melle Mel and Scorpio into the mix before David Penn and Honey Dijon’s re-edit of Felix Da Housecat pull the programme back towards club-focused House Music.
Ruben Mandolini and Carloh keep the rhythm direct before Latmun and Iglesias’ “Funky People” supplies another strong tech-house moment. Marlon C and Mendo follow as Marco continues through percussion-heavy grooves, with the set becoming tougher and more stripped-back as it develops.
Miguel Bastida’s “Canto A La Luna” offers a warmer house interlude before SOSA (UK) starts the closing run. Radio Slave’s “Another Club” then shifts firmly into Peak Time Techno, marking the clearest change in weight across the latter part of the programme.
Templebeat keeps that darker pressure in place before Digital Excitation’s “Pure Pleasure” closes the show with an older electronic club reference. Across the full selection, Marco Mei moves from UK garage and funkier house into tech house and straight house before the final tracks bring a tougher techno edge.
