Samotarev presents Right Focus episode 03 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Alexey Samotarev, known professionally as Samotarev, began his career as a disc jockey in 1997, specialising in Breakbeat and Electrohouse in Russia. He was a founding member of The Python Project, a Progressive House, Tech House and Techno trio established in Rostov-on-Don, Russia, by Yura Kolomiytsev, Alexei Samotarev (DJ Samotarev) and Eugeniy Litovchenko.
Around the same time, he began performing as a DJ with vinyl and CDJs. He has played at numerous clubs in Russia and Ukraine, as well as festivals and private events across both countries.
The Python Project released its debut album Deep Pressure in 2004, followed by a series of tracks. From 2004 to 2006, as a co-organiser of the Sabota DJ promo group, he organised Massive Music Festivals in southern Russia, drawing thousands of attendees.
Between 2005 and 2007, he co-hosted the weekly radio show Adrenalin on Radio N. The Python Project's first track was released in 2006 on the Xeton Label, followed by releases on Ascension, Balkan Connection, Behold, Bellarine, Composure, Jetlag, Monad, Presslab, Proton, Real Music, Segment, System and Toes In The Sand.
In 2009, he began his solo career as Samotarev with Space Travel, released on The Lowbit Label with remixes by Thomas Penton, Rachael Star and Joshua Collins. That year, Samotarev established his label – The Green Snake Label, whose main direction was progressive sound.
In 2012, he moved to Saint Petersburg, where he began a residency at Parkking, an after-party club. He also played at Music Hall, 4:20 Music Lab, Prodj Club, OM Café, Look and Q Club.
In 2016, Samotarev moved to Koh Phangan, Thailand, became a resident at 4U Bar and Lost Paradise, and took part in the Scandal Festival; he is also a resident of Scientific Sound Asia's DJ Agency and Radio Station. He regularly plays at KC Beach Club, The Beach and Gecko Club on Koh Samui, as well as 360 Bar, Loi Lay, Samsara, Guy’s Bar, Local Bar, Coast Resort, Seaboard Bungalows, Amsterdam Bar, Jungle Experience and Mustache in Bangkok, while his Thailand-made single Voice of Phangan on Bonzai Progressive reached the Beatport Top 100 Progressive House chart and Samotarev will never stop producing.
Samotarev's Right Focus episode 03 for Scientific Sound Asia opens with Chris Domingo and Mariner featuring Alec Sky's Freqing Out on Colorize, introducing Progressive House before Chris Domingo and Mariner's Said Secrets arrives via Nuevadeep. PHCK's Indian Summer on All Day I Dream then establishes the first Deep House passage.
Maestro's Yuksek remix of Harmony on Tigersushi brings in Indie Dance, before Mike Griego featuring Paula Os follows with Headspace on Balance Music. Etherwave's Maxi Degrassi remix of Extract on Extravaganza and Evren Ulusoy's Symposio on Kommunity return the selection to Deep House.
Laroz's Higher Instrumental on Lump shifts towards Melodic House and Techno, followed by Butch's Matthias Meyer remix of Shahrzad on Watergate. Zalvador's Ewan Rill remix of Chronology on Bonzai Progressive restores Progressive House, while Betoko and Alex Kaspersky's Metrika remix of Pluttonya on Dear Deer returns to Melodic House and Techno.
Paul Hazendonk's Arina Mur remix of X Is Forever on Manual Music and Simone Vitullo and Archila's Island Vibes on Go Deeva sustain the Deep House thread. DJ Zombi's Interaxxis remix of Crypto Maniacs on Beat Boutique brings Progressive House back before Alexey Romeo's Arabic Adventure on Go Deeva Records moves again into Melodic House and Techno.
Giorgio Moroder's Denis Naidanow mix of I Wanna Rock You on Solaris introduces TechHouse, leading into Josh Butler's The System on Milk & Sugar and its Tech House focus. Shazz and Ian Pooley's Ian Pooley remix of Intro on Electronic Griot then settles into House Music.
Franky Wah's Free on Ministry of Sound returns to Progressive House, setting up Sabb's Audiojack remix of Jeopardized on RADIANT. Hermanez closes the programme with Twenty Four on TRYBESof, leaving the final stretch in Organic House territory.
