DJ Gerard, Tim Jones of DeviceRATT, announced the playlist for his weekly programme The Hit List episode 6 on Scientific Sound Asia, which was scheduled for Tuesday, 17 September 2019. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Gerard, also known as Tim Jones from DeviceRATT, is a producer and DJ specialising in Deep House, Deep Tech House, Tech House and Techno. He works with electronic music as both a selector and creator.
His production work contributes to dance music and its wider culture, with an approach that engages with genre conventions. He also collaborates with other industry professionals internationally on original music.
Gerard draws inspiration from John Digweed, Sebastian Leger, Thomas Schumacher, Dubfire, Maceo Plex, Hot Since 82, Nora En Pure, Adriatique, Tom Demac, DJ Dan and DJ Foxx. At the time of publication, he was based in China and collaborated with the DJ agency Scientific Sound Asia.
He was preparing to perform at venues in China, an opportunity he anticipated at the time. Gerard also served as Nu-Disco manager for Brasbeat.com, a digital electronic-music platform in Latin America, where he hosted a monthly podcast of his selected tracks.
He additionally presented a monthly show on Mixcloud.com. The programme includes Willian Pires' Âmo in Luke Hunter's remix and Mila Journée's Genealogia, a Techno Brothers release, while Mila Journée was described as a new addition to the label's roster.
Gerard Jones opens The Hit List Episode 06 with Wu’s “Heir” before Mike Jaguar and Danito & Athina establish the deeper melodic character of the programme. Danito & Athina’s catalogue from this period moves between Deep House and Melodic House and Techno, providing a useful reference point for the opening section.
Michael Sak, Artyom Kozlov and Willian Pires continue through restrained club material before Discoschorle, Foog and Kama add a firmer rhythmic edge. Format Groove, Solid Slap and Murilo M then carry the set through house-oriented grooves without breaking its predominantly deep and progressive direction.
Sebastian Busto and Mila Journe lead into Alexandro G with Bastien Groove before Pilato’s “Cosmic Horizon” gives Progressive House a particularly clear presence. Pilato identifies the original Typ3 Records release as progressive house, making it one of the strongest genre anchors in the latter half of the show.
Mlinar’s “Farewell To The Moon” follows in Luke Hunter’s remix before Armen Miran and Hraach deepen the progressive mood with “Light.” The Sudbeat Music release of “Light” is officially classified as progressive house, while the pair’s surrounding catalogue also crosses into melodic house and techno and organic house.
Maxi Galoppo’s “Fever” precedes Hugo’s “Primitive Future” to close a show built more around progressive and melodic house than harder club styles. Across Episode 06, Gerard Jones moves through progressive house, deep house and melodic house and techno, with smaller tech-house and organic-house elements supporting the main direction.
