Mista C presents his first guest Drum and Bass show on Scientific Sound Asia, originally published for Monday 2 September 2019. Scientific Sound Asia is an electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform that brings together producers and DJs for a substantial following across Southeast Asia and internationally.
DJ Mista C, real name Robert Cullen, is a Drum and Bass DJ from London, UK, with over 20 years on the decks. Mista C began mixing on Technics at the age of 15.
His love of Drum and Bass was like an addiction, and he spent most of his wages on the latest releases. He eventually worked at Revolution Records in West London.
Mista C's early DJ career progressed through Under 18s events across London until he was old enough to enter a nightclub. In the early 2000s, he held residencies on London pirate radio stations including Freeze FM, Trilogy FM, Rampage FM and Fire FM.
Those residencies led to bookings in room two for larger promoters in the Drum and Bass scene. In 2003, Mista C and friends created AIR Promotions and began putting on events in West London.
He later held a summer residency at Es Paradis in Ibiza, playing for Helter Skelter and Innovation. Mista C has played alongside Andy C, Nicky Blackmarket, Phantasy, Ratpack, Hazard, Covert Garden, Skibadee, Shabba, Fearless, Eksman, IC3, Flyte and Rhymestar.
At the time of publication, he had been based in Thailand for 14 years and regularly played Bangkok's underground clubs. He had also recently joined Scientific Sound Asia's DJ agency.
Mista C's first Drum and Bass episode opens with UK Apache and Shy FX's Original Nuttah Chase & Status Remix, followed by Covert Garden's Yohei and Sub Focus's Solar System on Virgin EMI. Benny Page's Turn Down the Lights VIP and Bladerunner's Rolling Fire VIP on Hi Resolution establish the high-energy pace.
Document One's Holy Moly on Shogun Audio leads into High Contrast's Unglued remix of If We Ever on Hospital Records. Firefox's Bladerunner remix of Buck Rogers on Jungle Cakes, Original Sin's So Vivid on Let It Roll and Macky Gee's Tour on Elevate keep the Drum and Bass selection moving at full pace.
Sub Focus returns with the Metrik remix of X-Ray on RAM Records, before Culture Shock's Bunker and Chase & Status's Original Business follow on RAM Records and Virgin EMI. Brockie and Ed Solo's Echobox on Playaz, Document One and Takura's Shutdown on Shogun Audio, and Tantrum Desire's Pump on Technique extend the opening run.
Traumatize's Mind Your Own on Biological Beats gives way to Serum, Paul T and Edward Oberon's Moon in Your Eyes on V Recordings. Covert Garden's Finders Fee, Sub Focus's Timewarp VIP on RAM Records and Siren on Virgin EMI bring the middle section back to familiar label territory.
Bladerunner's Don't Stop on Hi Resolution, DJ Sly's 98 Style and Sub Focus's Swamp Thing on RAM Records set up Tantrum Desire's Anarchist featuring Rhymestar on Let It Roll. Upgrade's All It Needs To Be on Low Down Deep Recordings, Bladerunner's Power Up and BassFlexx's Original Plameican Bwoy on Deep In The Jungle Records keep the pressure high.
Total Science's Sauce remix of Nosher on Computer Integrated Audio is followed by Tantrum Desire's The Sacrifice on Technique and Sub Focus's Rock It on RAM Records. Krust's Kloakin King and Roni Size's Snapshot 3, both on Full Cycle, provide a late nod to the genre's established catalogue.
The closing stretch pairs Culture Shock's Troglodyte VIP on RAM Records with Friction and Dimension's Kinetic on Shogun Audio, then brings in Serum and Voltage's Break It Down on Jungle Cakes. Drumsound and Bassline Smith's Unity on Technique, Chase & Status's Disaster on Virgin EMI and Renegade's Terrorist on Dread Recordings give the final passage a forceful finish.
