Samotarev presents Right Focus episode 2 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Alexey Samotarev, known as Samotarev, began his DJ career in Russia in 1997, with a focus on Breakbeat and Electrohouse. In Rostov-on-Don, Russia, he helped to establish The Python Project with Yura Kolomiytsev and Eugeniy Litovchenko, a trio working across Progressive House, Tech House and Techno.
He began DJing at the same time, using both vinyl and CDJs. His performances included clubs throughout Russia and Ukraine, alongside festivals and private events in cities across both countries.
The Python Project released its first album, DeepPressure, in 2004, followed by a series of further tracks. From 2004 to 2006, Samotarev co-organised the SabotaDJ promo group and oversaw Massive Music Festivals in southern Russia, which attracted audiences in the thousands.
Between 2005 and 2007, he co-hosted the weekly radio show Adrenalin on Radio N. In 2006, The Python Project issued its first track on Xeton, followed by releases through Ascension, Balkan Connection, Behold, Bellarine, Composure, Jetlag, Monad, Presslab, Proton, Real Music, Segment, System and Toes In The Sand.
Samotarev began his solo career in 2009 with Space Travel on The Lowbit Label, featuring remixes by Thomas Penton, Rachael Star and Joshua Collins. That year, he founded his own label, The Green Snake Label, with a focus on progressive sound.
In 2012, he moved to Saint Petersburg, gained a residency at the after-party club Parkking, and played at Music Hall, 4:20 Music Lab, Prodj Club, OM Café, Look and Q Club. He relocated to Koh Phangan, Thailand, in 2016, becoming a resident at 4U Bar and Lost Paradise while also appearing at the Scandal Festival.
His venue appearances include KC Beach Club, The Beach and Gecko Club in Koh Samui, as well as 360 Bar, Loi Lay, Samsara, Guy’s Bar, Local Bar, Coast Resort, Seaboard Bungalows, Amsterdam Bar, Jungle Experience and Mustache in Bangkok. Samotarev produces music regularly, and his Thailand-made single Voice of Phangan on Bonzai Progressive reached the Beatport Top 100 Progressive House chart.
Samotarev’s Right Focus episode 2 on Scientific Sound Asia opens with Deep House selections that establish a measured club atmosphere. Cleaning Company’s Basster on Green Snake is followed by Goran Tech’s Ardour on The Purr.
Andrey Djackonda’s The Secret Btw Us on Conceptual Deep sustains the opening mood before Agustin Giri’s Skyer on One Of A Kind introduces Melodic House and Techno. Art Of Tones then brings the dub version of Sly & Spiegel on Atjazz back towards the set’s deeper house foundations.
JFR’s Ross Geldart remix of Patience on AH Digital and Spacebeat’s Moonlight on BC2 move into Progressive House. David R Maddocks’ Sphagnum Moss on Green Snake then raises the pressure with Peak Time Techno.
JP Lantieri’s Not Demure remix of Pinot Grigio on Flemcy Music returns to progressive territory, before Roma Alkhimov’s Ajna on BQ brings another peak-time techno cut. Daniel Barross follows with Dinero on Sunclock, adding the programme’s confirmed Afro House turn.
Cherry (UA)’s Ruba on Timeless Moment and Edu Imbernon and Los Suruba’s Balear on Last Night on Earth keep the melodic thread in view. Stefan Obermaier’s Atha on Drift brings in House Music, while Laroz Camel Rider’s Yenenya on Lump settles back into deep house.
Kasper Koman’s Dim on Plattenbank, CJ Art’s Rick Pier O’Neil remix of Ancient Artifact on Deepersense Music and Imran Khan’s Dreamcatcher on Particles extend the progressive house passage. Laroz’s Higher Instrumental on Lump Records, Sower’s West & Hill remix of Wax Desert on Nie Wieder Schlafen and V.Danilov’s C’est La Vie on Green Snake lead to Alberto Sainz’s One Other World on AH Digital, closing with Electronica.
