Samotarev presents Right Focus episode 01 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter, DJ agency and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Alexey Samotarev, known professionally as Samotarev, began his musical career in Russia in 1997 as a Breakbeat and Electrohouse DJ. He co-founded The Python Project, a Progressive House, Tech House and Techno trio from Rostov-on-Don, Russia, with Yura Kolomiytsev, Alexei Samotarev, also known as DJ Samotarev, and Eugeniy Litovchenko.
Alongside launching his DJ career, he began playing on vinyl and CDJs and broadened his musical influences. He performed in clubs across Russia and Ukraine, at festivals and private parties in Saint Petersburg, Moscow, Astrakhan, Volgograd, Voronezh, Stavropol, Krasnodar, Cherepovets, Chita, Donetsk and Naberezhnye Chelny, among other cities.
In 2004, he released his debut album DeepPressure with The Python Project, followed by further tracks, and performed live sets using Ableton Live. From 2004 to 2006, he co-organised the SabotaDJ Promo group and Massive Music Festivals in southern Russia, which drew thousands of attendees.
From 2005 to 2007, he also co-hosted the weekly radio show Adrenalin on Radio N. The Python Project's first track arrived on Xeton Label in 2006, followed by releases through Ascension, Balkan Connection, Behold, Bellarine, Composure, Jetlag, Monad, Presslab, Proton, Real Music, Segment, System and Toes In The Sand.
In 2007, DJ Sasha supported The Python Project release Expectation at The Ministry Of Sound Party in London. Samotarev began his solo career in 2009 with Space Travel on The Lowbit Label, featuring remixes by Thomas Penton, Rachael Star and Joshua Collins.
That year, he founded Green Snake Records, a label focused on progressive sounds. Green Snake releases work by Russian and international electronic musicians and live projects.
In 2012, the label relocated to Saint Petersburg and became resident at the afterparty club Parkking. Its activity extended to Music Hall, 4:20 Music Lab, Prodj Club, OM Café, Look and Q Club, as well as the Chillout Planet Festival, while new music was produced.
Samotarev relocated to Koh Phangan, Thailand, in 2016 and held residencies at 4U Bar and Lost Paradise, while also taking part in the Scandal Festival. His appearances included KC Beach Club, The Beach and Gecko Club in Koh Samui, alongside 360 Bar, Loi Lay, Samsara, Guy's Bar, Local Bar, Coast Resort, Seaboard Bungalows, Amsterdam Bar, Jungle Experience and Mustache in Bangkok.
Samotarev is a prolific producer, and his Thailand-made single Voice of Phangan on Bonzai Progressive reached Beatport's TOP 100 Progressive House chart. The programme documents another side of his selection work alongside his production catalogue and label activity.
Samotarev’s Right Focus episode 01 opens with Boatman's Drown in Colours on Underyourskin, introducing a Downtempo start. Sebastian Busto's Between Us on The Soundgarden follows with Deep House pacing.
Kastis Torrau's Clock on Click and Rikki Sawyer's Once Upon A Time on Balkan Connection establish the Progressive House thread. Javier Voxx's Cosas Extranas on Green Snake then brings in Deep Tech House before Sebastian Busto returns with Genetics on The Soundgarden.
Sébastien Léger's Lost Miracle on All Day I Dream keeps the Deep House focus in place. Gab Rhome's Lee Jones remix of Miami Rice on Bar 25 Music turns towards Melodic House and Techno.
Dole & Kom's Tim Engelhardt remix of Paper Town on 3000 Grad develops that melodic direction, before Lessovsky's City On Another Planet on Dream Culture returns to Deep House. Severin Su's Livid on Exotic Refreshment leads into James Mac and VALL's Toi Et Moi, featuring Julienne, on Jannowitz and its House Music framing.
An unidentified selection follows, then Klunsh's 239 on Timeless Moment introduces Afro House. Adiru's Espen remix of Ronda on A Must Have and iCoen's Gorkiz remix of Astronaut on Superordinate Music bring the programme back to Progressive House.
Miraculum's Chris Drifter & MB Project remix of Intimacy on Soundteller restores a House Music touch before another unidentified record. Frank Sonic's Ozora on Kittball and Nicolas Rada's Dmitry Molosh remix of Tempelhof on Sound Avenue close on melodic and Progressive House material.
