Marco Mei presents his 2019 show 15 on Scientific Sound Asia, with the programme’s playlist recorded for 22 June. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, promoter and music-news platform connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
Marco Mei is an Italian DJ and producer with more than twenty-five years of experience behind the decks and in the studio. He developed his approach during the emergence of Afrobeat and synthesised music, beginning his DJ career in the early 1990s by organising House Music and Techno events under the Urban People brand.
Later in his career, he played at major festivals and club venues internationally. His appearances have included sets alongside Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry "Choo Choo" Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D'Void, among others.
Marco held a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh before taking his selections to clubs around the world. These venues included Arcan in Saigon, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Shore Club in Hoi An, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk.
In 2009, Marco formed Bicycle Corporation with Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. The pair established a collaborative production project alongside their individual DJ work.
Their earlier work in house and techno informed the duo’s productions from the outset. Bicycle Corporation signed to the 17:44 label, with further releases on Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, GrooveTraxx, Suka and Revox.
The duo has produced more than fifty tracks and remixes across Deep House, Tech House, French house and techno. Their music has received plays from DJs including Sneak, Mauro Picotto, Dubfire, Axwell, Danny Tenaglia and Above & Beyond.
Based in Taipei, Marco combines his interest in art with his music, and his early track Ciao Taipei became a local success in 2013. That release led to his involvement with the artists broadcasting on Scientific Sound Asia radio.
Marco works across a wider Southeast Asian network through clubs, events and regional electronic music activity. He is available for bookings through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency, while his weekly programme is broadcast through the radio station.
Marco Mei's 2019 show 15 on Scientific Sound Asia opens with Victor Simonelli Presents Solution’s Feels So Right on Sound Proof Recordings, followed by KiNK’s RAW on Running Back. Mike Dunn’s Move It, Work It on Classic Music Company and Brokenears’ Guest List on Lapsus Music establish a direct house-led opening.
Autarkic’s Bongos Tambourines in the Simple Symmetry Remix on Disco Halal keeps the early section close to house, before Hotel Avra’s Inure brings a deeper turn on TheBasement. KiNK then introduces Electro through To Love You featuring Rachel Row on Running Back, while Uffie’s Armand Van Helden Club Remix of ADD SUV on Ed Banger Records adds Dance & EDM energy.
Harry Thumann’s Underwater on Decca shifts the sequence towards Edits / Eurodisco territory. Austin Ato’s Ben’s Groove on Me Me Me and Benoit & Sergio’s Different Place on Culprit return the programme to a deeper club approach.
Legowelt’s Tuff City Kids Remix of Disco Rout on Cocoon Recordings introduces Indie Dance in the later stretch. Man2.0’s Space Music on Melomana extends that direction before St. David’s Bouncin' on Theory Of Swing Records brings back a house rhythm.
Darkmountaingroup’s Lose Control on Buzzin' Fly Records holds the club focus before THEMBA SA’s Better Days on Saved Records adds a firmer tech-house edge. Four Tet’s Planet on Text Records follows with Deep Tech House, tightening the final run without breaking its dancefloor focus.
Massimiliano Pagliara closes with Feel Live on Live At Robert Johnson, returning the programme to indie dance. The final selection gives the set a melodic, club-facing finish after its movement through house, deep material, electro and Eurodisco edits.
