Bicycle Corporation return with Roots 177 on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian DJ and production duo of Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, also known as 6884. Together they have built a catalogue of more than fifty original productions and remixes spanning House, Deep House, Tech House, French House, Techno and more melodic electronic material.
Marco began his career in Turin during the early 1990s, becoming involved with the city’s developing underground scene through the Urban People collective. That period gave him experience not only as a DJ but also through event organisation and close involvement with the wider club community.
As his reputation developed, Marco began receiving bookings across Italy before moving into international work. His career later included appearances across Europe, Asia and the Middle East, giving him experience with very different club cultures and audiences.
Stefano’s musical background developed from an early age through formal study and a wide range of influences. He studied classical piano, percussion and drums while also developing an appreciation for composers such as Chopin and the rhythmic traditions of West African djembe.
During his teenage years, electronic music and DJ culture became increasingly important to him. At a time when many of the records he wanted to hear were difficult to find on mainstream Italian radio, the DJ booth represented access to a different musical world.
That interest gradually developed into production, eventually bringing Stefano and Marco together as Bicycle Corporation. The partnership combines Marco’s knowledge of dancefloor structure and programming with Stefano’s background in instrumentation, rhythm and studio work.
Their music reflects that balance, moving between groove-led club material and more melodic or atmospheric productions without reducing the project to one fixed formula. The pair’s long-running collaboration has allowed them to explore different areas of electronic music while maintaining a consistent underground identity.
Bicycle Corporation have also revisited earlier material from their catalogue and made selected releases available through their Bandcamp page. That archive provides another way to explore the development of the project beyond their newer productions and radio work.
The Roots series connects directly with that history by giving the duo space to revisit the records, influences and ideas that shaped their musical development. Rather than following one narrow style, each edition reflects the wider range of music that has informed Bicycle Corporation over the years.
Roots 177 continues that approach with another selection built around the duo’s extensive background as DJs, producers and collectors. The programme offers a broader view of the influences behind Bicycle Corporation while maintaining the open-ended character that defines the series.
Bicycle Corporation Roots Episode 177 opens with Art Of Noise's "Moments In Love" before Chinese Revenge introduces Italo Disco through "Koto", establishing immediately that the programme will move well beyond a single electronic style. Durutti Column, Clive Stevens and Jean Luc Ponty then shift the selection through rock, tribal rhythm and fusion before Sea Level and Bob James strengthen the jazz-oriented side of the episode.
Iam Siam's dub treatment and Mike Oldfield's progressive rock provide another change of direction before Carlos Santana's "Aqua Marine" combines psychedelic, pop and jazz-rock influences. Kraftwerk then bring Electro firmly into focus with François K.'s remix of "Tour De France", followed by Data and Isabelle Antena as synth-driven pop and Latin-jazz elements broaden the electronic palette.

Edgar Froese follows with "Videophonic", linking soundtrack composition, ambient textures and electro before Clara Mondshine's "Die Drachentrommier" adds Space Disco and Harte 10 return to New Wave.
Herbie Hancock's "Junku" restores the Jazz Music connection before Japan's "Life In Tokyo" combines synth-pop with disco and Hypnosis bring a broader dance interpretation of the Blade Runner theme. Klein & M.B.O.'s "Dirty Talk" then adds an early House Music reference, while Nairobi's "Funky Soul Makossa" keeps the latter section rooted in electronic club music with strong funk-derived rhythm.
Paul Hardcastle introduces Breaks through the Destruction Mix of "19" before Pete Shelley and Ryuichi Sakamoto reinforce the programme's synth-pop thread around Russ Brown's Garage House cut "Gotta Find A Way".
