Joshua announces track-list for new shows 15th of June 2020

DJ Joshua presents another pairing of Floating Beats and Velvety Elements on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across Asia and internationally.

Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the 1990s and has built his collection across vinyl, cassettes, CDs and digital formats. His wider musical background includes House, Techno, Drum and Bass, Chillout and other electronic styles developed through decades of collecting, DJing and radio.

Joshua began mixing during the early 1990s and soon became an enthusiastic vinyl collector before becoming involved with local radio. He also performed at events organised with friends and worked alongside local artists as Portugal’s rave and underground electronic scenes continued to grow.

After stepping away from regular DJ activity to concentrate on family life, Joshua eventually returned to music and established Floating Beats. The programme became an outlet for the deeper, progressive and hypnotic side of his collection, combining atmospheric selections with controlled pacing and underground House and Techno.

DJ Joshua’s Mixcloud page provides an archive of his radio work, including the long-running Floating Beats series. The programme gives him room to explore melodic development, subtle progression and more driving rhythms without restricting each edition to one narrow style.

Velvety Elements developed as a complementary programme with a warmer and more soulful identity. Its selections place greater emphasis on groove, melody and deeper shades of House, giving Joshua a separate space for music that differs from the more hypnotic character of Floating Beats.

His production work has expanded through several aliases, each giving a different side of his musical background its own identity. Joshua Marian is associated with warmer, soulful and melodic material, while Joshua Fernand concentrates on tougher club-focused Techno and more forceful rhythmic structures.

As Joshua Marian, releases including Soul Zone and Love My Soul on Bassment Tapes reflect the softer side of his catalogue. Further productions such as Tengo Rojo, Restless Lips, Always On My Mind and I Can Go You Can See continue that connection with groove-led and melodic electronic music.

The K Joshua project explores more hypnotic, spacious, dub-influenced and experimental territory. Releases including Promised Work, Stranger Things, As You Are and Slow Laziness demonstrate a more abstract production direction while retaining the depth found throughout his wider work.

Joshua Fernand provides the strongest contrast through contemporary Techno and more direct club material. Tracks including Blue River, Breaking Rocks and Tearing Metal give the project a tougher and more percussive identity than his Joshua Marian and K Joshua output.

In 2024, Joshua founded JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his own productions and other underground electronic music. The label connects his studio work with the same long-standing interest in independent music that has shaped his DJing and radio activity.

Floating Beats and Velvety Elements allow Joshua to separate two sides of that musical background without losing the connection between them. His work can also be found through SoundCloud, where mixes and productions sit alongside the radio programmes and his broader catalogue.

DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 434 with Magit Cacoon and Ian O'Donovan, placing the first hour inside Melodic House and Techno before Dave Angel brings in the firmer pressure of Peak Time Techno. Oniris then restores the melodic thread with Borderline, creating an early contrast between atmospheric development and more direct club energy.

Adam Beyer, Green Velvet and Layton Giordani push the intensity higher with Space Date, followed by Ian O'Donovan and Luca Gaeta on Telepathy. Kevin Saunderson's remix of Blake Baxter, Jules Wells with Mason Rubinstein and Dast keep that driving techno sequence in place, giving the centre of the hour its strongest rhythmic momentum.

Senses Of Mind's After Earth returns the session to a more expansive melodic feel after the heavier middle section. The Model then closes Floating Beats 434 with Transitions, bringing the hour into House Music and providing a looser finish after the sustained run of techno.

Velvety Elements 007 changes the tone immediately as Cotonete's Layla in the DJ Deep and Romain Poncet Acid Remix opens a sustained Deep House sequence. Fynn Callum follows before Nolan and Mr. V introduce Afro House, giving the early part of the second hour a warmer and more soulful rhythmic character.

Jay Newman, Kevin Yost, Shur-I-Kan and Forteba deepen the groove through a long run of understated house selections before Nathan Barato brings in Tech House with Music. DJ Sneak, Platzdasch with Dix and Dubtribe Sound System then shift the programme towards a more direct House foundation while keeping the second hour relaxed and groove-led.

Manuel Costela and Sauco return the session to deeper territory with Three Flowers, followed by Nikki O and Javonntte's Love Without Dub to close the programme. Together, the two hours show the contrast between Floating Beats' melodic and techno-driven intensity and Velvety Elements' warmer Deep House and House approach.
