El Brujo presents El Brujo and The Wild Bunch episode 19 on Scientific Sound Asia, featuring guest DJ Francesco Conti. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian and international electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music-news platform.
El Brujo, whose real name is Robert Milanesi, was born in Italy and became addicted to music from an early age. During the early 1990s, he became known as one of the founding figures of Bologna's underground rave scene.
After many years of performing as a DJ, he began producing, with his first official release, Warriors, appearing on the Milan label Open Legs. A few years later, his record label Jambalay Records was launched at its opening party at Club Geminis in Ibiza, Spain.
The label and El Brujo burst onto the worldwide scene in the February 2011 chart of the legendary Maya Jane Coles. His track ‘Mozambique’, made with Big Mojo, was his first physical CD release and appeared on Nutty Fellas Are Go.
At the beginning of 2019, his release Plastic Dreams appeared on Frame Worxx and reached number 33 in the Beatport Hard Techno Top 100. El Brujo has also released on Elektrax, Frame Workxx, LW Recordings, Subwoofer, Berlin After Dark, Music Is The Drug, Gobekli Tepe, Fortwin Rec, Bunker, Mad Rhythm and SE7ENS, among others.
El Brujo's music takes a raw approach across the genres he works with, while his cosmic imagery is part of his artistic identity. The Wild Bunch programme has featured guest DJs from his group of techno producers and artists, alongside selections from his collaborators.
Guest DJ Francesco Conti (second hour)
This week's guest DJ (second hour) is Francesco Conti, Francesco Conti is a DJ and producer of electronic music who was born in Rome. He grew up in the radio station and rave scene in the Italian capital.
He was formed with the music that marked the end of the 80s and the early 90s, such as Acid House and Techno, which over the years has reinterpreted that sound injecting his own personal and original style. It all started in 1992 whilst collaborating with some radio stations in the capital, Rome; where he played in major nightclubs and venues.
In the summer of 2003, he relocated to the Adriatic coast, where he continued on his DJ adventure. In 2006 he gained some notoriety by winning the Equinox DJ competition against 16 Italian DJs in Riccione along the Adriatic coast in Northern Italy.
This award opened the doors to Ibiza, where he participated in the island's essential events every year. Then about ten years ago he started several record collaborations, including 2017 to present with Jambalay Records.
He currently collaborates with many online radio stations including United Techno Familia, and YouMixRadio. In these almost thirty years of activity, he has played with world-famous DJs and made many friends.
These experiences have enriched him, given him new stimuli and made him love music increasingly. He considers music a universal language without borders or barriers that brings people of different religions and races together.
El Brujo opens the first hour of Episode 19 with Emison’s “Emison Phylosophy,” followed by Kareem Smith and Davide Abbrescia as the programme establishes its Techno foundation through the Trench catalogue. A503X then appears twice with “Abduction” and “Drone,” before DJQ and the Emison and Duck Sandoval collaboration extend the first hour’s tightly focused underground character.
Buben’s “Testimony From People” precedes Makaja Gonzales, MOT3K and Raw Vandalz as El Brujo keeps the first hour firmly connected to Trench artists and promotional material. DJ D ReDD closes the section with “Jagged Edge,” completing a set dominated by harder techno and stripped-back club production rather than house-based styles.
DJ Francesco Conti begins the second hour with Massimo Vivona’s “World Of 303,” immediately introducing an Acid Techno element before Francisk Bano, Maurice Burgbacher and HML. Davide Nigro and Celic C Galaxy follow before Conti contributes his own “No Problem,” keeping the programme centred on techno while broadening the production styles within the hour.
Netty Hugo leads into Marco Bailey’s “Days Of Yore,” a Materia release from 2020 that sits within Bailey’s techno catalogue and anchors the middle of Francesco Conti’s selection. Gianni Piras, Coach and the Alex Imparato and Francesco Conti collaboration “Low Fear” continue the harder club direction into the closing section.
Emmanuel Top’s “Tone” adds a raw trance element rather than straightforward techno, with its current Beatport edition classified as Raw / Deep / Hypnotic Trance. Emison’s “Acid Love” then returns to the acid theme before El Brujo and Makaja Gonzales close the episode with “Sunrise.”
Across both hours, techno remains the broadest category, with Hard Techno, acid techno and Trance and Psytrance providing the clearest secondary strands. Francesco Conti’s hour is more stylistically varied than El Brujo’s Trench-led opening, but both remain rooted in harder underground electronic music.
