DJ Joshua presents his Floating Beats and Velvety Elements programmes on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia is an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency and promoter that publishes a music-news platform for audiences across Asia and internationally.
DJ Joshua, whose real name is Joshua Mar, has built an extensive electronic music library and holds a particular fondness for Techno. His knowledge spans a range of electronic styles and informs both programmes.
His interest in electronic music developed in the early 1990s alongside the rise of Portugal’s rave scene. He shared his enthusiasm on local radio, organised events and recognised music’s capacity to bring people together, becoming an established figure in the scene.
After a period devoted to raising a family, DJ Joshua returned to music and launched Floating Beats, a weekly radio show that has received recognition internationally. The programme provides a setting for his selections across electronic music.
"Music is an art form," he reflects. "It’s the fusion of elements that can convey emotions and make the body move. This is a place where you hear sounds that can float and end up falling onto your body... Enjoy it.”
In the first hour, Floating Beats combines Techno with energetic House rhythms. The selection features artists including Ritz, Anton Kubikov and Hideo Kobayashi.
Velvety Elements provides the second hour, bringing together Deep House, Tech House and Techno through DJ Joshua’s selection. Nnatn, Clive From Accounts and Nick Curly are among the artists featured in this part of the programme.
Both mixes are available through DJ Joshua’s online channels. Together, the two programmes show his approach to shifting between deeper club music and more direct rhythmic material.
Floating Beats opens with Ritz’s Later on Piston Recordings, establishing a Deep House foundation. Anton Kubikov’s Defaultman and Sapurra Fall Fever remix of Foggy on HEISENBERG adds Deep Tech House, before Laurent Maldo’s Rainy Day on Brique Rouge brings in House Music.
Scan 7’s The Best Is Yet to Come on Heist Recordings and Kicks’ Sinister 9001 on Rutilance Recordings return the first hour to Deep House. Butch’s Testarossa on MDLBEAST Records brings a Dance Music edge, while Hideo Kobayashi’s Chikuma on Fuente Music introduces Afro House.
Taho’s Electronik Waves on Lumina turns towards Tech House. JR From Dallas follows with the Detailed remix of Sweet Melody on Piston Recordings, and UC Beatz’s Sky High on Treasured Grooves restores a House Music focus.
Ritz returns with E Talk on Piston Recordings, followed by Intr0beatz’s Low Temperature on Cosmic Angles, keeping the late first-hour stretch in Deep House territory. DJ Pipe closes Floating Beats with Sky Lounge on Small Hours, leaving the programme in Tech House.
Velvety Elements begins with Nnatn’s Groovin’ Magic on Night Vibez Records, setting a Deep House tone for the second hour. Youandewan’s Cauliflower Wing on Small Hours then gives the opening a Tech House change of pace.
Clive From Accounts’ Dompe remix of Uno on No Brainer Records moves the programme into House Music. Gustaff’s Shakes My Body on Tech Avenue Records follows with a more percussive Tech House rhythm.
Forteba’s Time on Time on Plastic City brings the second hour back to Deep House. Nick Curly’s Mavis on Cecille answers with House Music and keeps the groove-led approach in place.
Ninetoes’ extended mix of Let U Go on Kaluki Musik adds a final Tech House lift before Rob Stillekens’ The Atelier on Black Seven Music returns to Deep House. Scope’s Hypnotize Me completes Velvety Elements, closing the programme with the same club-focused direction heard across the hour.
