Velvety Elements 337 welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running series on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the 1990s, developing his knowledge through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. His background spans a broad range of electronic music and provides the foundation for decades of DJing, radio, event organisation and production.
That experience shapes the identity of Velvety Elements, where Joshua concentrates on the warmer, soulful and groove-led side of his collection. Smooth pacing, subtle rhythmic movement and measured transitions give individual tracks room to develop while maintaining continuity across the session.
Joshua’s early involvement with Portugal’s underground scene included local radio, DJing, event organisation, collaborations and support for other artists. After stepping away from regular musical activity to concentrate on family life, he later returned through Floating Beats and gradually rebuilt his presence in radio.
Velvety Elements developed during that renewed period of activity as a dedicated outlet for the softer side of his musical identity. The programme places greater emphasis on groove, melody and depth while maintaining the careful pacing that runs through Joshua’s wider work.
His studio output as Joshua Marian reflects much of that direction, focusing on warmer rhythms and melodic detail. Soul Zone and Love My Soul on Bassment Tapes sit alongside Tengo Rojo and Restless Lips on 659 Records within that side of his catalogue.
How to Play Guitar on JFLM Recordings develops the melodic character of the project further. Always On My Mind and I Can Go, You Can See on 14th Level Of Paradise continue the deeper and groove-focused approach that connects Joshua Marian naturally with Velvety Elements.
Joshua also records as K Joshua, using the alias for more hypnotic, spacious, dub-influenced and experimental ideas. Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid, As You Are on Liberty Rhythm and Slow Laziness on Ghetto Rhythms Records illustrate the more abstract side of his production work.
Working under separate identities gives Joshua room to explore contrasting studio ideas without forcing them into the same musical framework. Joshua Marian carries much of the warmer and more melodic material, while K Joshua provides space for deeper and more experimental productions.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his productions and collaborative projects. The label gives him greater control over how his music is presented while providing a dedicated home for different sides of his studio activity.
That production work feeds naturally back into his radio programmes and broadens the perspective behind each edition. Velvety Elements 337 continues the series with another carefully paced selection shaped by Joshua’s long-standing connection with groove, melody and deeper electronic music.
DJ Joshua opens Velvety Elements 337 with Iron Curtis' Speak to Me Baby, setting a warm Deep House foundation before K POD's Big Pimpin keeps the opening section locked into the same groove-led territory. Franco Cinelli's remix of Halo Varga and Janeret then introduces Deep Tech House, tightening the rhythm while preserving the restrained character of the set.
Nick Holder and Tyrone Solomon's Trackheadz remix of Sean Roman and Toronto Hustle returns the mix to Deep House before Sascha Sonido's Rasputin brings back the deeper tech influence. Josh Wink follows with NGF, restoring a fuller house feel and keeping the middle of the programme rooted in warm, understated club music.
Nico Cassou's Momentary provides the episode's only Deep Techno excursion, adding a rawer and more hypnotic texture without disrupting the flow. Shabi's Euphoric Calling then shifts into House Music, while D'Julz moves the selection back towards Deep House with Weekend Warriors.
ACME's Rhythm Of Life III introduces a brief Progressive House turn late in the session, widening the atmosphere before DJ Vibe and Fragoso return to deeper house territory with The Train. Kevin Yost and Peter Funk close the episode through Dirtytwo's remix of Return to The Deep, giving the final stretch a suitably warm and rounded finish.
Across Velvety Elements 337, DJ Joshua keeps Deep House at the centre while using Deep Tech House, Deep Techno, House and Progressive House as carefully placed variations. The result stays true to the programme's warmer and more groove-focused identity, with subtle changes in pressure rather than abrupt stylistic shifts.
Listen to the live radio broadcast on Tuesday, October 20th, 2026, between 6 and 8 p.m. Indochina Time. If you happen to miss it, you can catch a replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. ICT.
