Velvety Elements 330 welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running House Music show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the 1990s and developed his musical outlook through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. House Music has remained at the centre of that development even as his wider interests have moved through Techno, Drum and Bass, Chillout and other areas of electronic music.
That enduring connection with House shapes the identity of Velvety Elements, which concentrates on warmer, deeper and more soulful shades of the genre. Joshua favours smooth grooves, subtle movement and carefully paced selections rather than relying on immediate peak-time impact.
His involvement with Portugal’s underground scene continued during quieter periods through event promotion, collaboration and support for other local artists. After stepping back from regular activity to concentrate on family life, his return through Floating Beats re-established his presence in radio and created space for deeper musical exploration.
Velvety Elements developed from that same creative direction while giving House Music a dedicated place within his broadcasting. Each episode is constructed around flow and continuity, allowing Deep House, Soulful House and related styles to develop naturally across the programme.
Joshua’s recent studio output under the Joshua Marian name reflects the same warmer side of his musical identity. Soul Zone and Love My Soul on Bassment Tapes, together with Tengo Rojo and Restless Lips on 659 Records, move through Deep House and Soulful House territory.
How to Play Guitar on JFLM Recordings takes his production work towards Melodic House and Techno while retaining the careful arrangement heard across his broader catalogue. Always on My Mind and I Can Go, You Can See on 14th Level Of Paradise extend the deeper side of his House production.
Joshua also uses the K Joshua alias for material that moves further into experimental and underground electronic territory. Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid and As You Are on Liberty Rhythm explore Hypnotic Techno, Dub Techno and Ambient influences alongside the more rhythm-focused work released under Joshua Marian.
These different aliases give him room to separate musical ideas without restricting his overall output to one sound. Joshua Marian carries much of the House-focused material, while K Joshua allows darker, more spacious and experimental electronic influences to develop independently.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his own productions and collaborative work. The label provides a dedicated platform for long-term artistic development while giving him greater control over how new material is presented and released.
That studio activity feeds naturally back into his radio work, where new productions can sit alongside carefully selected records from other artists. Velvety Elements 330 continues that approach with another deep and groove-led House session built around subtle movement, warm textures and the understated musical character that defines the series.
DJ Joshua begins Velvety Elements 330 with Kevin Yost's "Jump" before Nico Cassou's "Momentary" introduces the rawer pulse of Deep Techno into the opening sequence. Chez Damier and Ron Trent then bring the programme firmly back towards Deep House, followed by Franck Roger's "Strings For Life" on Real Tone Records.
DJ Sneak's "Seven Spice Rubz" adds a more swinging Funky House character before Joshua Marian's "Strange Egiptians" keeps the groove rooted in House Music. Jay Tripwire shifts the session towards Deep Tech House with "Banger 1", giving the middle section a tighter and more stripped-back rhythmic edge.
Deep Charles restores the deeper house emphasis with "Fever Night", while Audiojack's "Release Yourself" adds another direct house cut through Gruuv. Hersey's "In My Life" in Anil Aras' Dancin' Remix then returns to deep tech territory, creating another subtle change in texture before Joshua Marian makes his second appearance.
"I'm Not a New Kid" brings the final section back into deep house before N.Y. House'n Authority's "Window Guards", reshaped by DJ Steaw, closes the selection on Nu Groove Records. Across the twelve tracks, DJ Joshua balances warm deep-house foundations with flashes of raw techno, funky house and deeper tech-driven grooves without losing the understated character of Velvety Elements.
