DJ Graham Gold publishes the playlist for ‘Esta La Musica’ 479.
Esta La Musica by Graham Gold features house, tech house, melodic house, progressive house, trance, deep house, breakbeat, and indie…
Tech House developed during the 1990s from the overlap between House Music and Techno. The style combined House Music's groove and swing with the tighter percussion, reduced arrangements and machine-led character associated with Techno.
Early scenes in Britain, the United States and continental Europe helped establish the sound through clubs, record shops and independent labels. DJs used Tech House to connect deeper House records with more stripped-back Techno during longer sets.
Artists including Terry Francis, Eddie Richards, Mr. C, Nathan Coles and Bushwacka! became closely associated with the British side of the genre. Their work favoured rolling basslines, precise drums, short vocal samples and subtle changes, rather than large melodic breakdowns.
Tech House commonly features four-to-the-floor kick drums, syncopated percussion, repetitive basslines and extended arrangements built for mixing. Some tracks lean toward the warmth of House Music, while others use darker textures and firmer rhythms drawn from Techno.
During the 2000s and 2010s, the category expanded through Ibiza, European club culture and international festivals. Its wider popularity produced many variations, from minimal and deep forms to more direct tracks built around vocal hooks, drops and heavier low frequencies.
Tech House is best understood as a flexible crossover category rather than one fixed production formula. Its defining feature is the balance between House groove and Techno structure, with rhythm and dance-floor function taking priority over elaborate melody.
At Scientific Sound Asia, tech house is a defining feature of Marco Mei, with further appearances on Esta La Musica and The Hit List.
