Our House Spooky Edition

Event Details

This event took place at Nymphes, 110 Pasteur, Bến Nghé, Quận 1, Ho Chi Minh City, from 9 PM on 1 November 2019 until 3 AM on 2 November 2019, with the original location retained for archive accuracy even though the venue has since closed. Scientific Sound Asia presented the first edition of Our House as a Halloween-themed night built around House Music, costumes, drinks and a deliberately spooky atmosphere.

👻 Our House, Spooky Edition introduced a new event concept centred on underground House Music rather than a broad multi-genre programme. Guests were encouraged to arrive in suitably ghoulish clothing, with a prize offered for the best-dressed Ghoul or Ghoulette.

👻 FREE ENTRY 👻 kept the event accessible from the start, while a drinks promotion ran between 9 PM and 11 PM. Heineken Vietnam supported the opening hours with a buy-one-get-one-free offer on Heineken Silver Beer, giving the early part of the night an additional incentive before the dancefloor became busier.

The music moved through Deep House, Tech House, Tech Funk and related underground selections. Rather than pushing the Halloween idea only through decoration, the DJs were each given suitably haunted names for the occasion.

👻 “Creepy” Coh-hul returned to the decks with a selection rooted in Tech House and Tech Funk. His role in the opening edition of Our House brought a darker, groove-driven club sound to Nymphes and helped establish the musical identity of the new event.

The Tech House side of the programme combined rolling percussion, bass-heavy grooves and music built directly for the dancefloor. Tech Funk added a more energetic edge, giving Creepy Coh-hul room to move between deeper rhythmic material and stronger late-night pressure.

👻 “Mad” DJ Psycho-UK brought another underground direction to the night with Deep House and Tech House selections. Freshly released from the imaginary asylum for Halloween, he was billed to bring suitably unhinged energy to the Nymphes crowd while keeping the focus firmly on House Music.

DJ Psycho-UK has a musical background stretching through Hip Hop, Acid House, Hardcore, Jungle, Drum and Bass, House and underground rave culture. For Our House, however, his set concentrated on the deeper and more stripped-back House styles that matched the concept of the event.

His wider DJ history began in East London, where he became involved with pirate radio, squat parties and underground events before later performing internationally. By the time of Our House, Spooky Edition, his work in Vietnam included DJing, event promotion and the continued development of Scientific Sound Asia.

👻 “Vampire” Yariuss brought another late-night character to the Halloween line-up, appearing under a name designed specifically for the occasion. Yariuss, also known as Yaroslav Kuchin, had returned to nightlife after a long break and was developing his own approach to House and Techno in Ho Chi Minh City.

His selections were built around mood and underground club music rather than a rigidly fixed sound. For the spooky edition of Our House, that gave Vampire Yariuss room to bring darker House material and a more nocturnal feel to the dancefloor.

Yariuss had already appeared at several independent electronic music events around the city before this night. His continued presence on local line-ups made him part of the network of selectors regularly appearing around Saigon’s smaller underground venues.

👻 “Spooky” Scott completed the published line-up with Deep House selections connected to his activity around Nha Trang. Flying into Saigon for the occasion, the self-styled spooky ghost added another regional connection to the night and kept the musical direction rooted in deeper House grooves.

His inclusion helped give Our House a line-up that combined DJs already active in Ho Chi Minh City with another selector coming from elsewhere in Vietnam. The result was a House-focused programme with enough variation between the DJs to keep the night moving without abandoning the central musical theme.

The event took place at Nymphes Gastropub, a former venue at 110 Pasteur in central District 1. Its location placed Our House within easy reach of the city centre while offering Scientific Sound Asia a smaller setting for an event based on music, costume and close interaction with the crowd.

Halloween gave the first edition an immediate visual identity and encouraged guests to participate rather than simply arrive for the DJs. Ghouls, vampires, mad patients and other suitably strange characters could all become part of the room, turning the audience into another element of the event.

The best-dressed competition reinforced that idea by rewarding guests who fully committed to the theme. Rather than treating fancy dress as background decoration, Our House made costume part of the experience and gave the opening edition a character distinct from a standard House Music night.

The naming of the DJs followed the same approach and added humour throughout the event promotion. Creepy Coh-hul, Mad DJ Psycho-UK, Vampire Yariuss and Spooky Scott turned an otherwise conventional line-up into a cast of Halloween characters without changing the underground musical focus.

The event also represented a new strand within Scientific Sound Asia’s activity in Ho Chi Minh City. While the organisation was already involved with Drum and Bass, Hip Hop, Techno and international bookings, Our House created a dedicated platform around House Music and related underground styles.

That connection remains visible through Scientific Sound Asia’s current events, radio station, DJ agency and music news sections. Historical pages such as this one preserve the venues, DJs and party concepts that formed part of the organisation’s earlier nightlife activity in Ho Chi Minh City.

Nymphes has since closed, making the retention of its original Pasteur Street address useful for archive accuracy. The venue forms part of a wider group of former Saigon spaces that supported independent electronic music before disappearing from the city’s nightlife map.

👻 Our House, Spooky Edition brought together Deep House, Tech House, Tech Funk, free entry, Halloween costumes and an early-evening beer promotion for the first event in the series. With Creepy Coh-hul, Mad DJ Psycho-UK, Vampire Yariuss and Spooky Scott behind the decks, the opening edition established Our House with exactly the kind of haunted underground energy its name promised.
