Event Details

Scientific Sound Asia presented a holiday edition of Our House Pool Party at Johnny Be Good in Thảo Điền, continuing the long weekend immediately after the previous day’s Hip Hop Don’t Stop pool party. The music changed direction from Hip Hop, Funk and Breaks to House Music, giving the venue another relaxed poolside session with free entry.

The event retained the straightforward format that had worked the day before, with guests able to swim, socialise and listen to music without the restrictions of a conventional club environment. House releases, fresh promos and classic selections provided the soundtrack while Johnny Be Good’s pool remained at the centre of the afternoon.

The Our House concept had already appeared through several Scientific Sound Asia events around Ho Chi Minh City before reaching Johnny Be Good. Earlier editions had concentrated on Deep House, Tech House and underground club music, while the pool-party format allowed the series to take on a lighter daytime character.

Rather than abandoning its musical foundations, the holiday edition adapted them to the setting. Fresh House records could sit alongside older favourites and promotional releases, giving the programme enough variety for a long afternoon without pushing the music towards an aggressive peak-time sound.

DJ Psycho-UK represented Scientific Sound Asia behind the decks and brought a selection of fresh promos, new cuts and established House records. His appearance connected the pool party with the wider Our House series and with Scientific Sound Asia’s longer history of underground electronic music events in Vietnam.

Although his musical background stretches through Hip Hop, Acid House, Hardcore, Jungle, Drum and Bass and several generations of British underground music, House has remained an important part of his collection. The Our House format gave that side of his musical history a dedicated setting while allowing him to concentrate on groove-led records suited to the poolside environment.

DJ Psycho-UK began DJing at the age of fourteen in East London using Soundlab DLP1 turntables and a four-track mixer. His early years coincided with a period when Hip Hop, House and Acid House were transforming underground nightlife, before Hardcore, Jungle and Drum and Bass developed through the British rave scene.

That background gave him a large musical reference point when selecting House decades later. Older records could appear beside newly released material and promotional tracks without the set needing to remain fixed to one generation of production.

Fresh promos were particularly important to the event because they allowed new music to appear before or around its wider public release. Combined with established House tracks, they gave the pool party a balance between discovery and familiarity.

Classic House selections provided the historical side of the programme and connected the event with the foundations of the genre. Drum machines, basslines, soulful vocals and stripped-back rhythms could work comfortably beside contemporary production while maintaining an easy daytime flow.

The poolside setting naturally encouraged a different pacing from a late-night Our House club session. Guests could move between swimming, drinks, conversation and dancing, allowing the music to support the atmosphere rather than demanding constant attention from a packed dancefloor.

Free entry also kept the event accessible during the holiday period. People could arrive for a swim or meet friends at Johnny Be Good and become part of the party without needing an advance ticket.

Towels were available to hire for anyone who wanted to use the pool without bringing their own. Guests could equally arrive prepared with their own towels, keeping the practical side of the event as uncomplicated as the music policy.

The original event listing named DJ Psycho-UK while stating that additional DJs were still to be announced. As the surviving listing does not preserve the final additional line-up, the archive retains More DJs TBA rather than assigning names that cannot be confirmed.

Keeping that detail is important because historical event pages should document what is known without filling gaps through assumption. The announced programme therefore remains DJ Psycho-UK with further selectors originally expected to join the session.

The holiday edition followed directly from the previous Hip Hop Don’t Stop gathering at the same venue, giving Johnny Be Good two contrasting Scientific Sound Asia pool parties across the long weekend. Hip Hop, Funk and Breaks had driven the first event, while Our House shifted the emphasis towards four-to-the-floor grooves and electronic dance music.

That change demonstrated the breadth of Scientific Sound Asia’s programming without requiring a change of location or format. The same pool could support a turntable-led Hip Hop session on one day and a House-focused gathering on the next.

Scientific Sound Asia continues to connect this history through its events, radio station, DJ agency and music news. The Our House series represents the House-focused side of that activity alongside the organisation’s work with Hip Hop, Techno, Jungle and Drum and Bass.

The Johnny Be Good holiday edition kept the concept deliberately simple and suited to its surroundings. Free entry, a swimming pool, fresh House releases, promos, classics and a relaxed crowd provided everything required to keep the long weekend moving.

Our House Pool Party therefore followed the previous day’s Hip Hop session with another easy-going Thảo Điền gathering built around music and the pool. DJ Psycho-UK led the announced programme, more DJs remained listed as TBA, and House Music supplied the soundtrack for another Scientific Sound Asia holiday event.
