Bicycle Corporation return with another edition of Roots, this time featuring guest DJ Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform serving listeners across the region and internationally.
Bicycle Corporation is the Italian duo formed by Marco Mei and Stefano Ugliano, better known as 6884. Together they have built a catalogue of more than fifty original productions and remixes spanning House, Deep House, Tech House, French House, melodic electronic music and Techno.
Marco began his career in Turin during the early 1990s as a DJ and producer before becoming involved with the Urban People collective. Through that project, he developed his experience as a promoter and organiser while presenting electronic music events across Italy.
His growing reputation eventually led to a residency with Pacha in Sharm el-Sheikh, Egypt. That experience strengthened his international profile and opened the way for bookings across Europe, Asia and other parts of the global club circuit.
Marco's wider musical background was shaped not only by House and Techno but also by the Afrocentric, Disco, Funk and electronic records he encountered through years of collecting. Those influences remain particularly relevant to Roots, where Bicycle Corporation move beyond their own productions and explore the music that helped shape their outlook as DJs.
Stefano grew up in Turin and showed strong musical ability from an early age, studying classical piano, percussion and drums. His wider interests included Chopin and West African djembe, giving him a broad melodic and rhythmic foundation before electronic music became his main focus.
As a teenager, Stefano became increasingly fascinated by DJs and the electronic records that were still difficult to hear on mainstream Italian radio during the 1990s. That curiosity eventually led him towards production and the technical process of creating the music that had captured his attention.
When Stefano met Marco, the pair discovered a shared understanding of electronic music and began working together as Bicycle Corporation. Marco's experience behind the decks and Stefano's musical and production background gave the project a flexible foundation for exploring deeper, melodic and more driving club material.
Their work has since appeared across numerous international labels while the pair have maintained a steady output of original productions and remixes. Bicycle Corporation's broad musical outlook also allows them to move comfortably beyond contemporary club music and into the records, influences and older styles that sit behind it.
Roots gives that wider musical history a dedicated place within their radio work. The programme moves through Afrocentric music, Disco, Funk, Soul, House and other styles that have influenced electronic music across different generations.

Guest DJ Murphy Kin.
This week’s guest is Murphy Kin, also known as DJ Lucy, a selector and producer whose background in the film industry strongly influences the way he approaches music. His constant search for unfamiliar sounds gives his sets a deliberately open-ended character rather than tying them to one fixed genre or club formula.
DJ Lucy treats a performance much like a cinematic sequence, using changes in pace, mood and intensity to create a sense of narrative. Rather than remaining within a predictable 4/4 structure or immediately pushing towards peak-time energy, he allows each set to develop gradually.
His selections can begin with romantic ballads, classic records and playful R&B before moving through Disco, Indie, Rock and Dance music. That progression gives quieter passages and unexpected transitions as much importance as the eventual moments of higher energy.
His wider influences extend through Hip Hop, Rock, Punk, Indie Rock and Jazz alongside electronic and dance music. This broad musical knowledge allows him to move rhythmically between styles while preserving an emotional thread across the performance.
Since 2015, Murphy Kin has led Ting Ting Disco, a collective known for presenting parties across bars, pubs, clubs and other venues in Taipei and Shanghai. By 2017, the project had expanded into other Chinese cities and begun touring more widely across Asia.
In 2021, Ting Ting Disco extended its activity beyond physical events by introducing online music releases. The idea was to bring together music from different parts of the world and give listeners access to a wider range of sounds connected with the collective’s open-minded approach.
Murphy Kin carries the same flexibility into his live performances and avoids following a rigid script. Sometimes the room, audience and atmosphere determine the direction, while at other moments he takes greater control and guides the emotional progression in much the same way a film director shapes a scene.
That unpredictability is central to his identity as DJ Lucy. His performances are built around reaction, timing and contrast, allowing different genres to interact without losing the overall continuity of the set.
For this edition of Roots, Murphy Kin moves through House, four-to-the-floor rhythms, Chillout, Disco, Funk and Soul. The selection fits naturally with a programme centred on the wider musical influences behind each guest, while giving DJ Lucy room to present the eclectic and cinematic approach that defines his work.
Episode 124 of Roots by Murphy Kin a.k.a DJ Lucy, is a well-curated blend of Deep House, Tech House, Electro, and Indie vibes. Opening with HNNY’s “Gymnastics,” the set moves through tracks like the dreamlike “Open Season” by High Highs and the deep grooves of Gui Boratto’s “This Is Not The End.”
