Velvety Elements 332 welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the 1990s and developed his musical outlook through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. His background spans all of electronic music, giving his work a broad foundation built over several decades.
That experience shapes the identity of Velvety Elements, where Joshua concentrates on the warmer and more soulful side of his collection. His programming favours smooth pacing, subtle rhythmic movement and measured transitions that give each track room to develop.
Joshua remained connected with Portugal’s underground scene through event organisation, collaboration and support for local artists. After stepping away from regular musical activity to concentrate on family life, he later returned through Floating Beats and gradually rebuilt his presence in radio.
Velvety Elements developed from that same creative period while giving the softer side of his musical identity a dedicated platform. The programme has since become a regular outlet for selections built around groove, depth and continuity.
His studio work under the Joshua Marian name reflects much of that direction. Soul Zone and Love My Soul on Bassment Tapes, together with Tengo Rojo and Restless Lips on 659 Records, form part of a catalogue centred on warmer rhythms and soulful detail.
How to Play Guitar on JFLM Recordings takes a more melodic route, while Always on My Mind and I Can Go, You Can See on 14th Level Of Paradise continue the deeper side of his production work. The Joshua Marian project gives him a distinct space for material closely connected with the character of Velvety Elements.
Joshua also records as K Joshua, using the alias for more hypnotic, spacious and experimental ideas. Releases including Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid, As You Are on Liberty Rhythm and Slow Laziness on Ghetto Rhythms Records give that project a noticeably different identity from his warmer studio material.
Working under several aliases allows Joshua to separate contrasting ideas without forcing every production into one style. Joshua Marian carries much of the groove-led and melodic material, while K Joshua provides room for darker, dub-influenced and more abstract directions.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his own productions and collaborative work. The label gives him greater control over how new material is presented while providing a dedicated home for the different sides of his studio activity.
That production work feeds naturally back into his radio programmes and broadens the perspective behind each edition. Velvety Elements 332 continues the series with another carefully paced session shaped by Joshua’s long-standing connection with groove, melody and deeper electronic music.
DJ Joshua opens Velvety Elements 332 with Freestyle Man's "Sunrise For Meguro", setting a warm Deep House foundation before Nick Beringer's "Easy Easy" introduces a straighter House Music groove. Chez Damier and Ron Trent then return the mix to deeper territory with "B1 Untitled 3", reinforcing the session's classic underground house character.
DJ Sneak's "Seven Spice Rubz" brings in Funky House before Tuccillo restores the deeper pulse with "Street Jungle". Demuir with Nathan Barato and Room 303 and Nick Curly then shift the middle section back towards House, keeping the rhythm direct while maintaining the low-slung feel running through the set.
Mattias El Mansouri's "Struktur" introduces Deep Tech House and gives the programme a more stripped-back, modern edge. Angel Moraes with Sally Cortes follows through Radio Slave's re-edit of "Burnin' Up", adding a tougher dance-floor moment before the closing stretch returns to deeper material.
Politics Of Dancing, Franck Roger and Joshua Marian complete the episode with three consecutive Deep House selections, bringing the set back to the sound that dominates the programme overall. Across Velvety Elements 332, DJ Joshua balances Deep House with House, Funky House and Deep Tech House, using classic names and contemporary productions to keep the hour rooted in groove without becoming stylistically narrow.
