Digital D announces his tracklist for guest show 4th of December 2020

Digital D presents the 17th edition of his guest show on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an electronic music radio station, event promoter, DJ agency and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across Asia and internationally.

Digital D, whose real name is DaTron King, is a DJ and producer originally from Louisiana and raised in Texas in the United States. His musical background began long before DJing through years of playing violin and cello, while listening to Motown with his parents helped establish an early appreciation for rhythm, melody and arrangement.

His involvement with recorded music developed more seriously when he began buying records at the age of eighteen. Those early years eventually led him towards DJing, with Drum and Bass forming an important part of his first experiences behind the decks.

A significant change in direction came after hearing French House producer Bob Sinclar’s album Paradise. The record encouraged Digital D to explore House Music more deeply and helped establish the style that would become central to his later DJ work.

He developed his experience through performances at venues around Dallas before relocating to Taipei, Taiwan, in 2008. The move placed him within a very different nightlife environment and gave him opportunities to establish himself within Taiwan’s underground electronic music community.

Digital D went on to perform at clubs, parties and festivals around Taiwan while generally maintaining an independent approach rather than concentrating exclusively on mainstream venues. A five-year Taipei residency gave him the opportunity to play regularly and refine his understanding of House Music through constant contact with local dancefloors.

His SoundCloud and Mixcloud document a selector whose background reaches beyond a single interpretation of House. His earlier involvement with Drum and Bass and his instrumental training continue to inform the rhythmic awareness and musical detail behind his sets.

This particular edition takes a different approach from some of his earlier programmes by concentrating entirely on tracks released during 2020. Rather than mixing new material with older House records, Digital D uses the episode as a focused snapshot of music circulating during that year.

Large Music plays a particularly prominent role in the selection, with nine tracks from the long-running House label appearing across the programme. The concentration reflects Digital D’s appreciation for the imprint and artists associated with its deeper, groove-led approach to House Music.

The mix also includes four of Digital D’s own promotional tracks, bringing his production work directly into the programme alongside material from other artists. Two of those productions were connected with Dutch imprint Wolfrage Recordings, adding another chapter to his developing catalogue as a producer.

Digital D has also expressed an interest in working with labels and producers whose music fits his own approach, including artists such as Vertigini and the wider Large Music circle. That outlook reflects the same curiosity that has followed him from his early record collecting in Texas through to his years DJing in Taiwan.

For his 17th Scientific Sound Asia guest show, Digital D delivers a House-focused selection built entirely from 2020 material. The combination of Large Music releases, underground House selections and his own productions gives the episode a distinct identity within his wider series.

Digital D opens Guest Show 17 with Dave Mayer and Kapal's "Chicago Jazz" before introducing his own "I Want You Back", setting up a warm Deep House foundation from the start. Marotti, Mo'Cream and Homero Espinosa continue that understated groove, while ColorJaxx keeps the early section locked into the smooth club sound associated with Large Music.

Vertigini and Withus add more swing through the middle of the set, with Random Soul's extended remix of "Over Me" bringing a stronger vocal and soulful character. Art Department then shifts the texture slightly before Simon Shaw and the Rocco Rodamaal remix of Jovonn and Franck Roger bring the mix back towards deeper House Music.

Elisa Elisa and Kreature tighten the rhythm before Mo'Cream returns with "I Need You", reinforcing the warm deep-house core running throughout the programme. Digital D then reappears with the Deep Dub Mix of "I Want You Back", using his own material to push the session towards a more stripped-back and dub-influenced section.

Miguel Migs adds his distinctive West Coast house touch with "Lost Messages" before two further Digital D productions, "The Dilemma" and "The Sweep", place the selector directly at the centre of the final third. Elisa Elisa and Vertigini follow with club-focused cuts that keep the energy firm without losing the soulful character established earlier.

Jess Bays brings a more contemporary vocal-house lift before Mihai Popoviciu and The Checkup close the show with deeper, groove-led selections. Across Guest Show 17, Digital D blends Deep House, Soulful House, classic-leaning House and deeper tech-driven grooves, combining established artists with several of his own productions.
