Event Details

This event took place at Piu Piu, 97 Hai Bà Trưng, Sài Gòn, Ho Chi Minh City 71000, from 9 PM on 11 November 2016 until 4 AM on 12 November 2016. The venue has since closed, but the original location has been kept for archive accuracy.

Piu Piu and Scientific Sound Saigon presented Spikey TEE, bringing a UK underground voice to Ho Chi Minh City. The night featured a line-up rooted in Drum and Bass, UK Rap, Jungle and bass music culture.

Spikey TEE is a singer, artist, producer and DJ whose career connects several important strands of UK underground music. He first gained wider attention through The Sindecut, one of the pioneering UK Rap groups of the late 1980s and early 1990s.

His work later expanded across live performance, studio collaboration and sound system culture. He toured with Soul II Soul, fronted projects with Jah Wobble, and collaborated with artists including Roots Manuva and Morcheeba.

By the time of this event, Spikey TEE had been active in music for more than 26 years. His longevity came from a deep connection to the culture rather than a short-lived industry moment, with his voice and production work carrying links between Rap, Reggae, Dub, Drum and Bass and wider UK bass music.

Support came from DJ Psycho-UK and Skitty. Together, they connected Scientific Sound Saigon’s early Vietnam activity with UK-rooted Hip Hop, Jungle and Drum and Bass culture.

DJ Psycho-UK brought an East London background shaped by Hip Hop, Acid House, Hardcore, Jungle, Drum and Bass and underground rave culture. A turntablist and multi-genre DJ, his selections linked the night to London’s pirate radio, soundsystem and bass music traditions.

Skitty brought the darker edge of UK Drum and Bass to the event. Associated with Foundation X, Metalheadz and Renegade Hardware, his sound connected classic Jungle pressure, heavyweight basslines and the harder side of the underground.
