Open Frequencies: Digital – Drum & Bass Rooftop Event Ho Chi Minh City

Event Details

This event took place at Tonic Rooftop Bar, 79 Quốc Hương, Thảo Điền, Thủ Đức, Ho Chi Minh City, from 9 PM on 21 February 2026 until 4 AM on 22 February 2026. Scientific Sound Asia welcomed UK Drum and Bass veteran Digital for Open Frequencies, a special free-entry rooftop session built around Jungle, Drum and Bass and sound-system culture.

The event was presented as a limited-capacity RSVP gathering rather than a conventional large-scale headline show. Tonic’s open-air setting gave the music space to breathe while keeping the audience close to an artist whose production history is strongly connected with bass weight, dub influence and physical dancefloor impact.

Digital, also known as Stephen Carr or Steve Carr, has been active across several generations of Drum and Bass and Jungle. His work is rooted in sound-system culture, where low-frequency pressure, spacious production and rolling percussion are treated as central parts of the music rather than decorative elements.

Across his career, Digital has released music through labels including Metalheadz, V Recordings, 31 Records, Certificate 18, Reinforced, Dispatch, Rupture, Exit, Commercial Suicide and C.I.A. That catalogue places him across several important strands of British Drum and Bass history, from early Jungle and deeper rollers to later generations of stripped-back and dub-influenced production.

Tracks such as Spacefunk, Gateman, Deadline, Waterhouse Dub and Phantom Force with Spirit have become closely associated with his name. With more than 140 productions released, his catalogue demonstrates a long-term commitment to music designed around rhythm, weight and the way bass behaves through a proper sound system.

That made the rooftop format particularly interesting because it placed an artist associated with dark clubs and sound-system pressure into an intimate open-air environment. Rather than changing the musical identity, the setting gave those deep basslines and rolling drums a different physical context above Thảo Điền.

Support came from DJ Psycho-UK, Skitty, Dobbo and Throe. Together, the support line-up connected Digital’s UK Drum and Bass heritage with Scientific Sound Asia’s locally based bass network in Ho Chi Minh City.

DJ Psycho-UK brought his East London background across Hip Hop, Hardcore, Jungle and Drum and Bass, while Skitty added direct UK label history through releases associated with Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Subtitles and Foundation X. Dobbo and Throe completed a support programme already familiar from other Scientific Sound Asia bass events in the city.

The event also became an important lead-in to the return of DnB Saigon at Tonic Rooftop the following month. That March edition placed DJ Psycho-UK, Skitty, Throe and Dobbo at the centre of a resident-led rooftop session, extending the momentum created by Digital’s international appearance.

The series continued again on 11 April 2026, when Darkus and Mango joined Skitty, Dobbo and DJ Psycho-UK for another free-entry night. This sequence gave Tonic a clear place within Scientific Sound Asia’s 2026 Drum and Bass programme, alternating international guests with community-focused local editions.

Open Frequencies was also explicitly promoted as a drug-free event, with illicit substances strictly prohibited. The message kept the focus on music, people and positive energy while establishing a clear policy for Scientific Sound Asia’s events during this period.

Free entry and limited capacity gave the night a community character despite Digital’s international status. Rather than separating the visiting artist from the local scene, the format placed him alongside the same selectors who would continue carrying Drum and Bass events at Tonic in the months that followed.

Scientific Sound Asia’s wider work connects these events through its radio station, DJ agency, events programme and music news. Open Frequencies represented the international side of that network while remaining rooted in the same local bass community supporting regular Jungle and Drum and Bass sessions in Ho Chi Minh City.

Digital’s appearance at Tonic therefore brought decades of UK Drum and Bass history into a small rooftop gathering in Thảo Điền. With DJ Psycho-UK, Skitty, Dobbo and Throe providing support, the night connected dub-influenced bass weight, Jungle heritage and Scientific Sound Asia’s contemporary Saigon scene through seven hours of music.
