This event took place at Reggae and Rum, 90-92 Bùi Viện, Bến Thành, Ho Chi Minh City, from 9 PM on 17 December 2016 until 4 AM on 18 December 2016. The venue has since closed, but the original location has been kept for archive accuracy.
Rehab DnB and Scientific Sound Saigon presented The Jungle Sessions at Reggae and Rum on Bùi Viện. The event brought Jungle and Drum and Bass to a new venue in the tourist district of Ho Chi Minh City.
The night moved from Old Skool Jungle and early Drum and Bass influences through to current riddims and heavier modern selections. It marked another step in the development of Rehab, Saigon’s monthly 100 percent Drum and Bass night.
Rehab was a collaboration between Scientific Sound Saigon and Foundation X, the Drum and Bass label founded in the West Midlands, UK. The project connected local Vietnam events with UK label culture, early Jungle foundations and new underground bass music.
Skitty appeared as a UK Drum and Bass producer, then based in Ho Chi Minh City. His releases across Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Bassbin, Subtitles, Osiris Music, Dutty Audio, Trendkill and his own Foundation X label placed him within the darker and more underground side of the genre.
His sound connected classic Jungle weight with forward-moving Drum and Bass pressure. For The Jungle Sessions, Skitty brought the Foundation X identity into a local club setting, linking West Midlands bass music roots with Saigon’s developing scene.
DJ Psycho-UK represented Scientific Sound Saigon on the night. An East London DJ with roots in Hip Hop, Acid House, Hardcore, Jungle and Drum and Bass, he had played on London pirate radio stations including Axe FM and Fantasy FM.
His background also included the Outcry Syndicate, OTT parties and London Overground events, which were part of the UK warehouse party network after the Criminal Justice Act. At Rehab, his selections connected London pirate radio and rave history with the emerging Drum and Bass scene in Ho Chi Minh City.
