Graham Gold presented Esta La Musica 297 for Scientific Sound Asia, with the tracklist published on 20 March 2019. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news outlet, connecting audiences across Asia and internationally.
The programme took its name from a tattoo Gold received while DJing in Los Angeles in 1999. He adopted the phrase for Esta La Musica after leaving Kiss 100 and relocating to South East Asia.
Gold’s early musical interests centred on Afrocentric music, and he and a friend established The Funky Road Show mobile disco in West London during the early 1970s. By the age of 18, he was playing Black music five nights a week in central London.
From 1980 to 1990, Gold held a six-nights-a-week residency at Gulliver’s Club in Mayfair. That decade-long role gave him a prominent local profile before his wider radio and club work.
During the 1980s, he worked across London pirate radio and played Reggae, Soul, Disco and Jazz Funk. He later joined the Radio London Soul Night Out team and hosted a Saturday-night Soul programme on Capital FM.
Capital FM named Gold Broadcaster of the Year in 1985. His later association with Kiss FM London brought his radio work to a far broader audience.
Gold became internationally known through his Kiss 100 broadcasts and the Peach club nights in London. He appeared in the DJ Magazine Top 100 for eight consecutive years, placing him among the era’s best-known DJs.
His career later extended to more than 150 cities in over 40 countries, including appearances at Glastonbury Festival, Gatecrasher, God’s Kitchen and Street Parade. His compilation releases sold more than 700,000 copies and received six Gold and four Silver BPI certifications.
Gold is based in Thailand and performs regularly in Bangkok, Pattaya and Koh Phangan, while also appearing internationally and at Peach events in London. Further updates, mixes and releases can be followed through his Facebook, Instagram, Mixcloud, SoundCloud, Beatport and Resident Advisor.
