Bipolar Bear and guest G Nomad publish their playlist for Badaboom 08

Bipolar Bear and guest G Nomad present Badaboom 08 on Scientific Sound Asia, bringing together the two founders of the project for a back-to-back selection. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across Asia and internationally.

The programme reflects the musical direction behind Badaboom, drawing from Afro-influenced and deeper House, global rhythms, Disco and more experimental electronic music. The pair use the series to present the broad range of sounds that also shape their events in Central Vietnam.

Bipolar Bear, real name Stefan Paunescu, is a Romanian DJ originally from Craiova in the south of the country. Growing up with limited access to specialist music, he later used the expansion of the internet to explore a much wider range of genres and follow the changes brought by digital music culture.

That process helped develop an eclectic approach to DJing rather than tying his selections to one particular style. His sets combine electronic music with groove-led and globally influenced material, with progression and variety playing an important role in how he builds a session.

After leaving Romania, he became involved with Manchester’s music scene as a DJ and producer. His Odwana project combined electronic dance music with world influences, African percussion and vocals, leading to appearances within the UK festival circuit.

In 2019, he relocated to Da Nang, Vietnam, where he co-founded Badaboom with fellow DJ G Nomad. The project developed around parties and radio while providing the pair with a platform for music extending from Funk, Soul and Rare Groove to House, Disco and more experimental electronic sounds.

G Nomad, also known as Gigimix, is a French DJ and producer who established himself within Vietnam’s electronic music scene after developing his background through turntablism and record collecting. His collection spans many genres, giving him a broad foundation for both club sets and longer-form selections.

Since 2012, he has performed more than 1,000 shows across France, the Netherlands, Spain, Germany, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia and South Africa. His activity in Vietnam also includes founding the Banana Hustle DJ crew alongside his work with the Badaboom collective in Da Nang.

Badaboom grew from their shared interest in music collecting, DJing and creating events that could bring different audiences together. Rather than concentrating on one genre, the project places emphasis on rhythm, groove and selections drawn from different musical cultures.

Badaboom 08 brings both founders together for a back-to-back session shaped by that wider approach. Their combined selection connects groove-focused sounds while reflecting the musical identity developed through their parties and radio shows.

G Nomad opens BADABOOM 08 with Maajo's Yara Mantra, setting an early Deep House tone before Just Baker's Dreamin' introduces an Indie Dance turn. Art Of Tones then brings the first direct House Music groove with Radio Hustle, while New York Disco Orchestra's It's True establishes the session's strong connection with Disco.

Rafael Cancian's remix of Fabro keeps the dancefloor energy bright before LP Martin and Fizzikx move the mix towards Nu Disco and disco-rooted club music. Joe Corti's remix of Scruscru and Jehan returns to a deeper groove, followed by Art Of Tones, Javonntte and Jimpster as G Nomad settles into a warm run of house-driven selections.

Boddhi Satva's Mama Kosa adds another disco-informed change before Pablo Fierro, Mr Raoul and K B'utiza introduce Afro House with Ancestral. Rulefinn closes G Nomad's hour with Kjempegreie, completing a first half that connects with a broader global rhythmic influence.

Bipolar Bear begins the second hour with Dennis Ferrer's Dam People Go in the Wolf Story remix before Joe T Vannelli and Mezomo strengthen the Afro House presence through Matinee and Zimbabwe. Whitesquare and Bosq then return the programme to deeper house territory, giving the opening of the second half a smoother foundation before Simon Lee and Raj Gupta introduce Latin House through Azteca.

Malena's More Afro and Soundspecies with Ache Meyi take the programme outside its house framework through Trap, Future Bass and bass-oriented club material, while Chevals' Saturn adds another broader dancefloor shift. Casbah 73 brings the Latin influence back with a rework of Ain't No Sunshine, before Jestofunk with Jocelyn Brown restores a fuller House groove through the Micky More and Andy Tee club mix of Special Love.

Mayer Hawthorne's Henry & Gingerale adds another Trap-influenced diversion before DJ Snatch combines Disco, Afrobeat and Funk on Disco Calypso. Calypso Rose closes BADABOOM 08 with Mo Laudi's remix of Calypso Queen, returning the session to House after two hours that connect deep and disco-rooted club music with Afro, Latin, bass and tropical influences.
