Marco Mei publishes his playlist for 2021 Podcast 31

Marco Mei has published the tracklist for episode 31 of 2021, originally broadcast on Saturday the 31st of July. Scientific Sound Asia serves audiences across Japan, China, Thailand, Taiwan, Korea, Sri Lanka and beyond as an English-language electronic music radio station, DJ agency, music news outlet and promoter.

Marco Mei is one of Italy's more well-rounded electronic music figures, with a career spanning over thirty years and roots in afrobeat, funk and early synthesised sound. He began DJing professionally in the early 1990s and has spent the decades since building a genuinely international presence.

Early momentum came through a residency at Pacha Club in Sharm-El-Sheikh, which opened a touring schedule that has since included Woo Bar, Fuse in Brussels, Room 18 in Taipei, Bangaluu in Berlin, G-Star in Pattaya, SOS Supper Club in Bali and NLO in Minsk. Roger Sanchez, David Morales, Ralph Falcon, Sander Kleinenberg, Harry Choo Choo Romero, Justin Berkmann and Funk D'Void are among those he has shared the booth with.

The Bicycle Corporation project, launched with Stefano Ugliano, known as 6884, in 2009, gave his studio work a dedicated platform through 17:44 Records. Output across Alchemy, Miniatures, WL77, GrooveTraxx, Suka and Revox has grown to over fifty tracks and remixes, with early recordings now available through Bandcamp. His latest releases and upcoming dates are posted on Facebook.

Taipei has been his base for a number of years, and regular appearances across South East Asia have steadily grown his network across the region. Bookings go through the Scientific Sound Asia DJ agency.

Marco Mei's 2021 Podcast 31 opens with Kim Ann Foxman's Connection on her Firehouse label, the track's warehouse echoes and raw House Music energy setting a direct and unfussy tone. Harry Romero's I Love on Nu Groove and Cinthie's Offenbach Anthem carry the set forward before Catz N Dogz and Gerd Janson's Modern Romance in the Dusky Remix returns from an earlier Marco Mei podcast.

Patrick Cowley and Sylvester's Menergy in the Purple Disco Machine Extended Remix then delivers one of the podcast's most charged selections, the late San Francisco producer's 1981 Hi-NRG classic given a contemporary Nu Disco treatment that bridges four decades of queer club culture.

Musk's Dance Dance Dance featuring Helen Salvin in the Johannes Albert Remix and the two Casiopepe selections on Dom Trojga carry the set through House and Techno territory before Mark Broom dominates a three-track sequence with Machine, What To Do and The 114.

The East London producer's three consecutive selections represent the most concentrated Techno passage in any Marco Mei podcast in the series, the peak time energy of all three tracks pushing the episode into its hardest phase. Nez and Felix Da Housecat's Lift Off in Radio Slave's Nasty Thing Remix and Madonna's Vogue in the Younger Than Me Edit on Hard Fist carry the set back through Tech House and Classic House territory before Felix Kröcher's Passion sustains the driving direction.

Jerome Sydenham and Robert Owens's Shade then delivers one of the podcast's warmest and most soulful moments, the New Jersey vocalist's voice providing a Deep House and Soulful House contrast to the harder selections either side of it. Willaris. K's Chapel returns from the previous podcast before Dart's Shutdown and Sofi Tukker's Drinkee in the Carl Cox Extended Mix carry the set through Tech House territory.

Nina Kraviz's Skyscrapers pushes back into Techno before Bicep's Lido introduces a Melodic House and Techno quality that briefly shifts the podcast's register. Cassy's The One I Love on Hov011 makes another appearance across the series before Chrissy's So Electrifying delivers a Jackin House moment rooted in Chicago's foundational dance floor tradition.

Jolucas's I Should Take My Own Advice and Groove Committee's I Want You To Know in the Larry Levan Mix close the episode, the latter connecting the podcast to the Paradise Garage legacy that runs as an invisible thread beneath much of Marco Mei's programming.
