Sublow Hz: Live in Ho Chi Minh City – 14th March 2025!

Event Details

This event took place at Úm Ba La, above Bardo Cocktails & Arts, 14 Đường Số 11, Thảo Điền, Quận 2, Ho Chi Minh City, from 9 PM on 14 March 2025 until 4 AM on 15 March 2025. Scientific Sound Asia presented Sublow Hz alongside Bangkok veteran Mista C for a night dedicated to Drum and Bass, Jungle and bass-driven underground music.

Sublow Hz brought a contemporary UK approach to Drum and Bass, combining heavyweight low frequencies with fast-moving rhythms and club-focused production. The project is formed by Benny Kain and JC, whose wider musical backgrounds include UK Garage, Hip Hop, House and Reggae before their work converged around Jungle and Drum and Bass.

Their productions draw from different branches of bass culture rather than remaining fixed to a single Drum and Bass formula. Heavyweight rollers can sit beside more vocal-led material, Jungle influences and rhythms shaped by the pair's experience across several areas of British underground music.

The Ho Chi Minh City appearance brought that approach directly to the Thảo Điền audience as part of Scientific Sound Asia's renewed programme of international bass bookings. Úm Ba La provided an intimate setting where the emphasis could remain on low frequencies, fast drums and the direct relationship between selectors and the dancefloor.

Mista C joined Sublow Hz with more than two decades of experience behind the decks and a musical background rooted in West London. Now based in Thailand and closely connected with Bangkok's bass music community, his sets move through Jungle, Drum and Bass and rolling club material while retaining the instincts developed through years of selecting.

His appearance strengthened the regional connection behind the event by linking a UK-rooted selector based in Bangkok with an international headline act and Scientific Sound Asia's Vietnam network. Rather than presenting the visitors in isolation, the programme placed them alongside DJs already connected with the continuing development of Drum and Bass in Ho Chi Minh City.

Felon MC was originally billed to host the event but did not perform after missing his flight to Vietnam. Retaining his name with that clarification preserves the original advertised line-up while avoiding the inaccurate impression that he appeared on the night.

Felon had already been connected with Scientific Sound Asia's 2025 programme through 35 Years of Formation with Grooverider and DJ SS at Tonic Rooftop Bar in January. That event opened the year with direct links to the formative British Jungle and Drum and Bass scene and established the momentum for further international bookings.

Support for Sublow Hz came from Throe, DJ Psycho-UK, Skitty and Dobbo, creating a line-up with connections to Bristol, East London, Wolverhampton, Wales and Vietnam. The different backgrounds gave the supporting programme room to move between rolling Drum and Bass, darker material, Jungle and more experimental bass selections.

Throe brought Bristol-rooted Drum and Bass energy with an emphasis on high-powered rhythms and rolling low frequencies. His contribution added another British regional connection to a night already drawing heavily from the musical traditions that developed around UK bass culture.

DJ Psycho-UK represented Scientific Sound Asia with a background stretching from East London Hip Hop and rave culture into Jungle, Drum and Bass and wider underground electronic music. His involvement connected the 2025 booking with the organisation's longer history of bass events in Vietnam, including earlier Rehab and Drum Save The Queen parties.

Skitty brought another direct connection with British Drum and Bass history through releases associated with Metalheadz, Renegade Hardware, Subtitles, Bassbin and his own Foundation X imprint. The Wolverhampton producer's darker and more bass-heavy selections added weight to a line-up already designed around underground rather than crossover interpretations of the genre.

Dobbo completed the support programme with raw bass music, experimental selections and a less predictable approach to the dancefloor. That variation allowed the night to move through several forms of bass pressure while keeping Drum and Bass and Jungle at the centre.

The Sublow Hz event arrived between other significant international bookings in Scientific Sound Asia's 2025 programme, including General Levy's Jungle and DnB special in April and Buunshin's Ho Chi Minh City debut in June. Together, those events represented very different areas of the music, from Jungle and sound-system culture to contemporary experimental Drum and Bass.

Scientific Sound Asia's wider activity connects these bookings with its radio station, events programme, DJ agency and music news. The Sublow Hz night formed part of that continuing effort to bring international bass artists together with local and locally based selectors rather than treating visiting performers as disconnected one-off bookings.

Sublow Hz, Mista C, Throe, DJ Psycho-UK, Skitty and Dobbo ultimately carried the night after Felon MC's travel problems prevented his appearance. The event remains part of Scientific Sound Asia's 2025 Drum and Bass archive as a seven-hour Thảo Điền session built around Jungle foundations, heavy basslines and contemporary underground club music.
