Event Details

After an unforgettable run as a radio series on Scientific Sound Asia and nine successful live editions, Bicycle Corporation and Scientific Sound Asia returned to HAKU Taipei for the tenth edition of Roots. The night continued the established focus on Afrobeat, Nu Disco, Disco and Disco Re-Edits, bringing the warm and groove-led identity of the programme back onto a Taipei dancefloor.

Reaching a tenth edition showed how firmly the concept had settled into the HAKU programme. Marco Mei and Murphy Kin remained at the centre, giving the series continuity while allowing each event to develop through different records and combinations.

Marcoは、イタリア人プロデューサーのStefano Ugliano（別名6884）とともにBicycle Corporationを構成するもう一方のメンバーでもあります。彼らの制作活動はHouseやTechnoを経てきましたが、MarcoのDJセットはDeep House、Disco House、Nu Disco、Tech Houseなど、グルーヴ重視のさまざまなスタイルにまで広がっています。

ディスコ・リエディットは、ダンスフロア向けに古い録音を再構築することで、新たな層を加えました。拡張されたイントロダクションや長めのインストゥルメンタルパート、変更されたブレイクによって、馴染み深い楽曲でもオリジナルの音楽の特徴を失うことなく、違った聴こえ方を実現しました。

Murphy Kin returned alongside Marco Mei with his own long history across House, Disco and regional club culture. Originally from Shanghai and later based in Taipei, he had become active through DJing, music curation, record-label work and independent events.

DJ Lucyとしても知られるMurphyは、特定の電子音楽ジャンルにとどまらず、幅広いアプローチを展開しました。彼の関心は、場面に応じてディスコ、ハウス、ソウル、ジャズ、R&B、Hip Hop、ロックなど、さまざまなスタイルに及んでいました。

The partnership between Marco Mei and Murphy Kin had become one of the defining features of the series by the tenth edition. They shared enough musical ground to keep the night coherent while their different backgrounds and collections prevented the format from becoming repetitive.

HAKU Taipeiはクラブシリーズの物理的な拠点であり続け、Scientific Sound Asiaはオリジナルの放送とのつながりを維持しました。したがって、同じ音楽的コンセプトは、台北で定期的に開催されるイベントとしてだけでなく、アジア各地および国際的に聴取者に届くラジオ番組としても存在し得るのです。

By the tenth event, the strength of Roots came from a format that no longer needed constant reinvention. Marco Mei and Murphy Kin could continue exploring Afrobeat, Nu Disco, Disco and Re-Edits while finding fresh ways to connect those sounds for the HAKU crowd.

招待状はこれまでと変わらずシンプルでした。クールに、セクシーに着こなして、踊り、気楽に過ごし、素敵な笑顔と前向きな姿勢を持ってきてください――という内容です。そのゆったりとしたメッセージが、経験豊かなセレクターたちと力強いレコード、そして何にも複雑さのないグルーヴへの愛に包まれた一夜の精神を的確に捉えていました。

Roots 10 therefore marked another milestone for a concept that had grown from radio into a recurring Taipei event. Marco Mei and Murphy Kin once again brought Afrobeat, Nu Disco, Disco and Disco Re-Edits together at HAKU for a night centred on warm rhythms, classic influences and dancefloor freedom.
