Floating Beats 765 welcomes back DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running electronic music series on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the mid-1990s, building his knowledge through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. His background spans House, Techno, Drum and Bass and Chillout, giving him a broad foundation developed across several decades of listening and performing.
His early involvement included DJing, record collecting, local radio and participation in Portugal’s developing rave scene. Joshua also remained active through event organisation, collaborations and support for local artists before stepping away from regular music activity to concentrate on family life.
His eventual return led to Floating Beats, which became an outlet for deeper, progressive and hypnotic underground electronic music. Joshua builds each edition around atmosphere, pacing and gradual development, giving individual tracks space without relying on abrupt shifts or constant peak-time intensity.
Alongside broadcasting, Joshua produces under several aliases that allow different areas of his studio work to develop independently. Each project reflects another part of the musical perspective he has built through years of collecting, DJing, radio and production.
As Joshua Fernand, he concentrates largely on contemporary Techno and tougher club-focused material. Releases include Blue River on MixCult Digital alongside Breaking Rocks and Tearing Metal through his own JFLM Recordings.
Closed Door and Open Door on Radickal Records explore darker and more hypnotic territory through repetition, tension and stripped-back rhythmic structures. Killer’s Plan on Rice Bowl Recordings introduces a more melodic direction, connecting his tougher productions with the atmospheric ideas found elsewhere in his catalogue.
The Joshua Marian alias carries much of his warmer and more soulful output, with greater emphasis on groove, melody and smoother rhythmic development. Releases including Soul Zone, Love My Soul, Tengo Rojo, Restless Lips, Always On My Mind and I Can Go, You Can See illustrate that side of his production work.
K Joshua provides space for more abstract, hypnotic and experimental material, with dub-influenced textures and spacious arrangements forming part of the project. Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid, As You Are on Liberty Rhythm and Slow Laziness on Ghetto Rhythms Records demonstrate the deeper and more exploratory direction of the alias.
Working through several identities gives Joshua room to explore contrasting ideas without forcing every production into the same framework. Joshua Fernand carries much of the tougher club material, Joshua Marian represents the warmer and more melodic side of his work, while K Joshua provides an outlet for deeper and more experimental productions.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his own productions and collaborative projects. The label gives him greater control over how new material is presented while providing a dedicated home for music connected with the different sides of his studio activity.
That production work feeds naturally back into his broadcasting and broadens the perspective behind Floating Beats. Episode 765 continues the series with carefully paced underground electronic music shaped by decades of listening and Joshua’s continuing interest in new records, production techniques and ideas.
DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 765 with Volpe's remix of Manuel Di Martino's Kintsugi, beginning the session in the raw, hypnotic depths of Deep Techno before Magnetik Source brings a distinctly Detroit-rooted character through Cinron. Axel Blanc and Arthur Pringle then increase the pressure with Devil's Whip, introducing the first Peak Time Techno selection of the episode.
Ian O'Donovan's Equinox shifts the mix into Melodic House and Techno, adding more space and melodic movement before MØZES and Trecci return to a straighter Techno framework with Detroit Crunch. His imprint Joshua Onairam follows with Take Control of My Mind, restoring the melodic direction and beginning a sustained middle section built around atmospheric electronic textures.
Eric Powell's Bearhugg and DCLVIII OFC's The Last Shadow continue that melodic run before HECK introduces Deep Tech House with 2 A.M.. The change gives the latter half a more restrained groove before Ian O'Donovan's remix of Petit Beurre's Lucid Dream returns the set to raw and hypnotic Techno.
Tevatron's Strings of the City raises the intensity once more with another peak-time selection, providing a firmer rhythmic push near the close. Drumcomplex then finishes Floating Beats 765 with Dancing on the Moon, bringing the programme back to melodic territory and rounding out a set that balances Techno pressure with expansive melodic passages.
Across the episode, DJ Joshua combines Melodic House and Techno with raw, Detroit-influenced and peak-time forms of Techno, while a single Deep Tech House track adds further variation. The progression remains tightly controlled throughout, shifting between deeper hypnotic moments and stronger club-focused sections without losing the session's coherent late-night character.
Make sure to listen to his live radio show on Monday, October 19th, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you're unable to attend the live show, you can catch the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
