Floating Beats 764 welcomes back host DJ Joshua for another edition of his long-running electronic music series on Scientific Sound Asia. Scientific Sound Asia operates as an Asian electronic music radio station, DJ agency, promoter and music news platform, connecting underground artists and listeners across the region and internationally.
Based in Évora, Portugal, DJ Joshua has been involved with electronic music since the mid-1990s, developing his knowledge through vinyl, cassettes, CDs and later digital formats. His background spans House, Techno, Drum and Bass and Chillout, providing a broad musical foundation built over several decades.
Joshua's early involvement included DJing, record collecting, local radio and participation in Portugal's developing rave scene. He also remained connected through event organisation, collaboration and support for local artists before stepping away from regular activity to concentrate on family life.
His eventual return led to Floating Beats, which became an outlet for deeper, progressive and hypnotic underground electronic music. Joshua builds each edition around atmosphere and controlled progression, allowing individual tracks room to develop without relying on abrupt shifts or constant peak-time pressure.
Alongside broadcasting, Joshua produces under several aliases that allow different areas of his studio work to develop independently. Each project reflects another part of the musical perspective he has built through years of collecting, DJing, radio and production.
As Joshua Fernand, he concentrates largely on contemporary Techno and tougher club-focused material. Releases include Blue River on MixCult Digital alongside Breaking Rocks and Tearing Metal through his own JFLM Recordings.
Closed Door and Open Door on Radickal Records explore darker and more hypnotic territory through repetition, tension and stripped-back rhythmic structures. Killer's Plan on Rice Bowl Recordings introduces a more melodic direction, connecting his harder productions with the atmospheric ideas found elsewhere in his work.
The Joshua Marian alias carries much of his warmer and more soulful output, with greater emphasis on groove, melody and smoother rhythmic development. Releases include Soul Zone, Love My Soul, Tengo Rojo, Restless Lips, Always on My Mind and I Can Go, You Can See.
K Joshua provides space for more abstract, hypnotic and experimental material, with dub-influenced textures and spacious arrangements forming part of the project. Promised Work on Kopoc, Stranger Things on dublucid, As You Are on Liberty Rhythm and Slow Laziness on Ghetto Rhythms Records illustrate that deeper side of his catalogue.
Working through several identities gives Joshua room to explore contrasting ideas without forcing every production into the same direction. Joshua Fernand carries much of the tougher club material, Joshua Marian represents the warmer and more melodic side of his work, while K Joshua provides an outlet for deeper and more experimental productions.
In 2024, Joshua launched JFLM Recordings as an independent outlet for his productions and collaborative projects. The label gives him greater control over how new material is presented while providing a dedicated home for music connected with the different sides of his studio activity.
That production work feeds naturally back into his broadcasting and broadens the perspective behind Floating Beats. Episode 764 continues the series with carefully paced underground electronic music shaped by decades of listening and Joshua's continuing interest in new records, production techniques and ideas.
DJ Joshua opens Floating Beats 764 with Feral's Unplace, immediately setting the tone with raw, deep and hypnotic Techno. Alinep's Petmalu and Joshua Fernand's Switch Off extend that restrained pressure through stripped percussion, dark textures and tightly controlled low-end movement.
Jesterr's Underworld and Lewis Fautzi's Paranoid Signals continue the same deep and hypnotic direction, keeping the programme focused on repetition and gradual tension rather than melodic crossover. Truncate's The Trip then sharpens the groove with a more direct functional edge while remaining firmly inside the raw Techno framework.
A Thousand Details and A.Paul maintain the darker centre of the set with Kilburn Grange and Subterfuge, both reinforcing the episode's emphasis on minimal movement and sustained rhythmic pressure. Carara's Suermonths provides the only Peak Time Techno selection, introducing a short burst of more driving energy before the mix returns to deeper territory.
Eubo's Aluminium and Jorg Rodriguez's Jumper restore the hypnotic pulse, followed by Raho's It's Not The Same Thing as the final third settles into a darker and more introspective run. Uncertain's Phrase then keeps the pressure taut with another raw, functional Techno cut built around rhythm rather than ornamentation.
Vinicius Honorio closes the episode with Inframundo on Mord, giving the finale a particularly uncompromising and industrial-leaning edge. The track brings the programme to a fitting end without breaking from the deep, hypnotic character established at the very beginning.
Across Floating Beats 764, thirteen of the fourteen selections sit within raw, deep and hypnotic Techno, with only one peak-time track interrupting that consistency. DJ Joshua therefore delivers one of the series' most focused recent episodes, built almost entirely around deep repetition, dark atmosphere and sustained club pressure.
Tune in to his live radio show on Monday, October 12th, 2026, from 6 to 8 p.m. Indochina Time (ICT). If you can't catch the live broadcast, you can listen to the replay on Friday from 6 to 8 a.m. (ICT).
